Oil Fuel Retail Hours (Wanganui) Order 1940.

Pursuant to the Oil Fuel Retail Hours Emergency Regulations 1940, and pursuant to a requisition in writing received in that behalf, I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, do hereby direct as follows:

  1. This Order may be cited as the Oil Fuel Retail Hours (Wanganui) Order 1940.
  2. This Order shall come into force on the 29th day of July, 1940.
  3. This Order shall apply to all establishments engaged in the sale by retail of oil fuel and situate within the area comprised in the City of Wanganui.
  4. On and after the coming into force of this Order all such establishments shall, except as hereinafter provided, be opened on every Sunday for the sale of oil fuel from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. and closed at all other times on every Sunday, and shall on every Friday be opened for the sale of oil fuel from 7.30 a.m. till 9 p.m. and closed at all other times on every Friday, and shall on every other day of the week be opened for the sale of oil fuel from 7.30 a.m. till 6 p.m. and closed at all other times on the said respective days: Provided that on the days hereinafter set out all such establishments shall, for the sale of oil fuel, be opened and closed at the hours specified opposite each such day and shall be closed at all other times on the said respective days.

  1. This Order shall not apply to the establishment of Martin and Vernon, Limited, at Taupo Quay, Wanganui, or to the establishment of Hodson's Motor Service Limited, St. Hill Street, Wanganui.

The Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its Amendments.--Fixing the Closing-hours of Grocers' Shops in the Borough of Stratford.

Whereas a requisition in writing signed by a majority of the occupiers of all grocers' shops within the Borough of Stratford has been forwarded to me desiring that all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows:

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 5 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions:

(1) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe, pursuant to section 14 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Thursday shall be 5 p.m.;
(2) On the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year's Day, the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m.;
(3) On the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Good Friday, and on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Anzac Day, when such day falls on a Friday, the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m. :

And whereas I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough;

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, I do hereby direct that on and after the 5th day of August, 1940, all the said shops within the said borough shall be closed accordingly.

Waihi Drainage Area.--Notice of Intention to make and levy General Rates.

Department of Lands and Survey,
Wellington, 15th July, 1940.

Notice is hereby given that it is intended, pursuant to the Swamp Drainage Act, 1915, and its amendments, to make and levy on the unimproved value of all land within the Pukehina Subdivision of the Waihi Drainage Area constituted under the said Act, the general rates described in the First Schedule hereto, and on the unimproved value of all land included in the Central Subdivision the general rate described in the Second Schedule hereto, and on the unimproved value of all land in the Kaikokopu Subdivision the general rates described in the Third Schedule hereto, such respective rates being for the purpose of meeting maintenance-costs for the period 1st April, 1940, to the 31st March, 1941.

The amount of the general rates will be payable in one sum on the 30th day of August, 1940, on which day the annually recurring special rates already made and levied will also be payable.

The valuation roll and the rate-book of the district will be open for inspection at the office of the Collector of Rates, Chief Drainage Engineer's Office, Room 45, 1st Floor, Government Buildings, Customs Street West, Auckland, and copies of same may be inspected at the office of Mr. H. W. Earp, Clerk, Kaituna River Board, Te Puke, at all times at which those offices are open for the transaction of public business.

FIRST SCHEDULE.
GENERAL RATES.
Pukehina Subdivision.

Class A : On the unimproved value of all land classified as Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under section 3 of the Swamp Drainage Amendment Act, 1928, elevenpence and forty-four one-hundredths of a penny (11.44d.) in the pound.

Class C : On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class C, fivepence and eight one-hundredths of a penny (5.08d.) in the pound.

SECOND SCHEDULE.
GENERAL RATES.
Central Subdivision.

Class A : On the unimproved value of all land classified as Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under section 3 of the Swamp Drainage Amendment Act, 1928, tenpence (10d.) in the pound.

THIRD SCHEDULE.
GENERAL RATES.
Kaikokopu Subdivision.

Class A : On the unimproved value of all land classified as Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under section 3 of the Swamp Drainage Amendment Act, 1928, sixpence and ninety-six one-hundredths of a penny (6.96d.) in the pound.

Class B : On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class B, fivepence and forty-one one-hundredths of a penny (5.41d.) in the pound.

Class C : On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class C, threepence and nine one-hundredths of a penny (3.09d.) in the pound.
