Decisions of the Bureau of Industry under Part III of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936.

NOTICE is hereby given that pursuant to the authority conferred on the Bureau of Industry under Part III of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936, the following decisions in respect of applications for licenses were made on the 29th January, 1940.

Applicant and Location. Nature of Application. Decision.
Turnbull and Jones, Ltd., Wellington Manufacture of Electric Ranges.
To engage in the industry of “the manufacture of electric ranges including the assembly of parts thereof” in respect of domestic ranges Granted assembly only, but manufacture of certain parts also allowed.
Smith’s Shingle Co., Ltd., Koro Koro Retail Sale and Distribution of Motor-spirits.
To install one petrol pump at a depot at Koro Koro, via Wairoa Granted.
  1. Applications from the following for Industrial Fishing Licenses were declined:—

S. H. Watkins, Te Puke.
J. C. Boese, Kent Street, Picton.
S. Aldridge, Waikawa, Picton.
J. Henry, Mangonui.

  1. An application for an Industrial Fishing License received from B. S. Thorburn, Waikarake, Whangarei, which had previously been declined, was reconsidered and the decision reversed and the application granted.

  2. An application for a Fish Wholesaler’s License received from P. and D. George, 27 Seatoun Road, Kilbirnie, Wellington, was declined.


Notice to Persons affected by an Application for a License under Part III of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936.

Retail Sale of Motor-spirit.

NOTICE is hereby given that an application has been received from A. P. Tutton and Son for a license to sell (retail) motor-spirits from one petrol pump and in drums at premises in Swannanoa.

Any person who considers he will be materially affected by the decision of the Bureau in respect of this application, and who wishes to make representations accordingly, must furnish such representations in writing so as to reach the undersigned not later than the 15th February, 1940. All representations must set out clearly the grounds for same, and include a statement showing the gallonage throughput of petrol sold, and the nature of the business conducted by the person making the representations.

Notice to Persons affected by an Application for a License under Part III of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936.

Manufacture of Soap.

NOTICE is hereby given that an application has been received from H. Burge, Cambridge, for a license to continue carrying on the industry of “the manufacture for sale of soap and soap-powder” (as defined in the Industry

Licensing (Soap-manufacture) Notice 1939, Amendment No. 1) in respect of the manufacture of abrasive soap, sand-soap, and unmilled bar and bulk soap.

Any person who considers he will be materially affected by the decision of the Bureau in respect of this application, and who wishes to make representations accordingly, must furnish such representations in writing so as to reach the undersigned not later than the 15th February, 1940.

Details: The above buoy has broken adrift and will not be replaced until about the end of February. No further notice will be given.
