Notice respecting Proposed Alteration of Boundaries.—City of Christchurch.

Wellington, 19th June, 1940.
IT is hereby notified that a petition has been presented to His Excellency the Governor-General, under the Municipal Corporations Act, 1933, praying that the area described in the Schedule hereto may be excluded from the County of Waimairi and included in the City of Christchurch.
All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the proposed alteration of boundaries which they desire to lodge within one month from the first publication of this notice, such objections or petitions to be addressed to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.
SCHEDULE.
AREA PROPOSED TO BE EXCLUDED FROM COUNTY OF WAIMAIRI AND INCLUDED IN THE CITY OF CHRISTCHURCH.
ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the western side of Slater Street with the southern side of Shirley Road; thence westerly along the southern side of Shirley Road to a point in line with the eastern side of Hills Road; thence to and along the eastern side of Hills Road to a point in line with the production of the south-western side of Shirley Road; thence along the production of the south-western side of Shirley Road to a point in line with the western side of Hills Road; thence northerly to and along the western side of Hills Road to a point in line with the northern boundary of Lot 21, on plan 11557, deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Christchurch; thence easterly across Hills Road and along the northern boundary of Lot 21 aforesaid, to the north-eastern corner of the said Lot 21; thence southerly along the eastern boundary of Lots 21 to 1, inclusive, on plan 11557 aforesaid, Lots 3, 2, and 1 on plan 10870, deposited as aforesaid, Lots 1, 2, and 3 on plan 7874, deposited as aforesaid, the northern and eastern boundary of Lot 2 and the eastern and southern boundary of Lot 1 on plan 11452, deposited as aforesaid, and the eastern boundary of Lot 5 on aforesaid plan 7874, to the eastermost corner of Lot 6 on said plan 7874; thence along the northern boundary of Lots 7 and 9 on said plan 7874, to the north-eastern corner of the said Lot 9; thence southerly along the eastern boundary of the said Lot 9, and that boundary produced across Shirley Road to the western side of Slater Street, the point of commencement.

Arbor Day, 1940.

IT is hereby notified that Wednesday, 7th August, 1940, is to be observed as Arbor Day, and in view of the national importance of tree-planting, local bodies throughout New Zealand are requested to organize suitable celebrations on that date.
Where on account of local climatic conditions in any district the 7th August is deemed unsuitable, the local bodies affected are invited to observe some other suitable day in that month.

Plant declared to be a Noxious Weed in the Masterton County.—(Notice No. Ag. 3753.)

THE following special order made by the Masterton County Council on the 11th day of June, 1940, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1928.

SPECIAL ORDER.
THAT in pursuance and in exercise of the powers conferred on it by the Noxious Weeds Act, 1928, the Masterton County Council hereby resolves and declares that the plant mentioned in the Schedule hereto (being a plant mentioned in the Second Schedule to the said Act, as extended from time to time by the Governor-General in Council) be and is hereby declared to be a noxious weed in the County of Masterton within the meaning of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1928.
SCHEDULE.
Milk thistle (Silybum).
Authorizing the Laying-off of Roads of less Width than 66 ft.
WHEREAS in the opinion of the Minister of Lands, it is expedient, by reason of the fact that the land shown upon the plan of Town of Fendalton Extension No. 34 (Plan No. 55), affecting part of Rural Section 18, Block X, Christchurch Survey District, Canterbury Land District, is intended to be used wholly for residential purposes, that the proposed new road shown thereon as Kaka Street should be of the width of 66 ft.:
Now, therefore, I, Frank Langstone, Minister of Lands, do hereby, in pursuance of the power conferred upon me by section 17, subsection (1), of the Land Act, 1924, and of every other power me thereunto enabling, authorize the laying-off of Kaka Street of a width of not less than 50 ft.: Provided always that it shall not be lawful for any person to erect or cause to be erected any building at a less distance than 33 ft. from the middle of such road.

Result of Election of a Trustee of a Drainage District.

THE following result of the election of a trustee of a drainage district has been received from the Returning Officer, and is published in accordance with the provisions of the Land Drainage Act, 1908. The notice published in New Zealand Gazette No. 60, of the 13th June, 1940, at page 1458, is hereby revoked.

Election of Member of Westland Land Board.
Hokitika, 19th June, 1940.
I, BASIL KING, Returning Officer for the election of a member of the Westland Land Board, do hereby notify, in accordance with the provisions of section 47 of the Land Act, 1924, and the regulations made thereunder, that the only person nominated to fill the vacancy occurring on the said Board was
John Ryall, of Barrytown.
And I do therefore hereby declare that the said John Ryall is duly elected a member of the Westland Land Board for a period of two years as from the 28th July, 1940.
