HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:
STAFF.
Honorary Colonel G. H. Mackley, C.M.G., relinquishes the appointment of Director of Railways and the honorary rank of Colonel. Dated 31st January, 1940.
Eugene Casey, Esquire, is appointed Director of Railways, and is granted the honorary rank of Colonel. Dated 1st February, 1940.
N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.
Major S. C. Reid, M.C., relinquishes the appointment of Commandant, Mobilization Camp, Ngarauwahia, and the temporary rank of Major, and is appointed Second-in-Command of the 2nd Infantry Training Battalion, Mobilization Camp, Papakura, with the rank of Captain. Dated 28th May, 1940.
The undermentioned Lieutenants to be Captains. Dated 11th June, 1940:

Captain E. W. Smith, V.D., Reserve of Officers, N.Z. Army Service Corps, to be Captain, and is appointed Camp Quartermaster, Burnham. Dated 25th January, 1940.
Thomas Bruce Allan, B.D.S., to be Lieutenant, N.Z. Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Burnham. Dated 7th February, 1940.
Robert Denniston Stewart to be Lieutenant, N.Z. Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 31st May, 1940.
Burchell Dawson Vial, B.D.S., to be Lieutenant, N.Z. Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 8th June, 1940.
Reginald James Kelly to be Lieutenant, N.Z. Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Papakura. Dated 8th June, 1940.
Lacey Reginald Sprague, B.D.S., to be Lieutenant, N.Z. Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Burnham. Dated 14th June, 1940.
Newton Ernest Wickham, B.D.S., to be Lieutenant, N.Z. Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Burnham. Dated 15th June, 1940.
Lieutenant T. B. Allan, B.D.S., relinquishes the appointment of Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Burnham, and is attached to the Royal N.Z. Air Force Station, Wigram. Dated 17th June, 1940.
Lieutenant C. J. McCaughan relinquishes the appointment of Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Burnham, and is attached to the Royal N.Z. Air Force Station, Wigram. Dated 17th June, 1940.
THE AUCKLAND (EAST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Major O. Henry, E.D., from the Reserve of Officers, to be Major, with seniority from 27th May, 1940. Dated 13th June, 1940.
QUEEN ALEXANDRA'S (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant and Quartermaster H. P. Stewart to be Lieutenant (temporary) and is granted the acting rank of Captain. Dated 29th February, 1940.
THE NORTH AUCKLAND MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant E. L. McGee is posted to the Retired List, with permission to retain his rank and wear the prescribed uniform. Dated 10th June, 1940.
N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Captain C. H. Gallagher, attached to the 10th Heavy Regiment, is granted the temporary rank of Major. Dated 12th June, 1940.
The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants (temporary) and are posted to the Regiments as stated against their names. Dated 1st June, 1940:
Ewen Dolbel (4th Battery, 2nd Field Regiment).
Vernon William Garnier (8th Battery, 8th Medium Regiment).
Thomas Richard Calvert Muir (8th Battery, 8th Medium Regiment).
2nd Lieutenant K. G. K. Cropp, 17th Medium Battery, is seconded for service with the 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 11th December, 1939.
THE AUCKLAND REGIMENT (COUNTESS OF RANFURLY'S OWN).
Major (Quartermaster) L. M. Blyth, M.M., from the Reserve of Officers, to be Captain (temporary Major), with seniority from 24th May, 1940, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 28th May, 1940.
Captain A. E. Brendon, from the Reserve of Officers, The Waikato Regiment, to be Captain, with seniority from 25th May, 1940, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 12th June, 1940.
Lieutenant V. C. Butler, from The North Auckland Regiment, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 8th June, 1940, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 17th June, 1940.
THE HAURAKI REGIMENT.
Lieutenant R. P. Callaway ceases to be posted to the 1st Cadet Battalion and is posted to the 1st Battalion, with seniority from 15th May, 1940. Dated 13th June, 1940.
Lieutenant S. A. Cooper ceases to be posted to the 2nd Cadet Battalion and is posted to the 1st Battalion, with seniority from 20th May, 1940. Dated 13th June, 1940.
THE NORTH AUCKLAND REGIMENT.
Lieutenant V. C. Butler, 3rd Cadet Battalion, is transferred to the Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly's Own). Dated 17th June, 1940.
With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 60, dated 13th June, 1940, relative to the appointment of 2nd Lieutenants (temporary), for "Robin Thayer" substitute "Robin Thayer Wood."
THE WELLINGTON REGIMENT (CITY OF WELLINGTON'S OWN).
Lieutenant J. B. Geere-Watson, 1st Battalion, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 14th November, 1939.
THE TARANAKI REGIMENT.
Lieutenant R. Lealand, 1st Battalion, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 13th February, 1940.
THE CANTERBURY REGIMENT.
Lieutenant E. P. Wills, 1st Battalion, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 1st June, 1940.
Lieutenant S. R. Cuming, 2nd Cadet Battalion, is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), Area 10. Dated 14th June, 1940.
THE NELSON, MARLBOROUGH, AND WEST COAST REGIMENT.
Major H. F. Allan ceases to be posted to the 1st Cadet Battalion, and is posted to the 1st Battalion, with seniority from 14th May, 1936. Dated 8th June, 1940.
THE OTAGO REGIMENT.
Lieutenant J. M. Briggs, 1st Battalion, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 4th June, 1940.
THE SOUTHLAND REGIMENT.
2nd Lieutenant W. A. Stewart, 1st Battalion, to be Lieutenant. Dated 4th January, 1940.
N.Z. MEDICAL CORPS.
Lieutenant A. M. Scott, M.B., Ch.B., seconded to the Royal N.Z. Air Force, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 3rd June, 1940.
N.Z. CHAPLAINS DEPARTMENT.
The Rev. Andrew James Joseph Wardlaw to be Chaplain 4th Class (Presbyterian), Area 1. Dated 12th June, 1940.
