Declaring a Patriotic Purpose under the Patriotic Purposes
Emergency Regulations 1939.
PURSUANT to clause (3) of Regulation 1 of the Patriotic
Purposes Emergency Regulations 1939, I, William
Edward Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, do hereby declare
that upon and after the publication of this notice in the
Gazette the following purposes shall in addition to the purposes
set out in the said clause be patriotic purposes, namely :—
(e) The supply or provision of comforts, conveniences,
amenities, or special equipment to or for persons for the
time being members of the inter-colonial or foreign-going
merchant navies of New Zealand or of any other British
state or the colonies, dependencies, protectorates, or mandated
territories thereof respectively, or of any State for the time
being allied to His Majesty.
(f) The supply or provision of comforts, conveniences,
amenities, or special equipment to or for persons who are
members of any voluntary aid or other voluntary organization
and are as members thereof for the time being actually on
service with His Majesty’s Naval, Military, or Air Forces of
New Zealand or of any other British state or the colonies,
dependencies, protectorates, or mandated territories thereof
respectively, or with the naval, military, or air forces of any
State for the time being allied to His Majesty.
(g) The relief, assistance, or support of—
(i) Persons who are or have at any time during the war
been members of the inter-colonial or foreign-going
merchant navies of New Zealand or of any other
British state or the colonies, dependencies, protect-
orates, or mandated territories thereof respectively,
or of any State for the time being allied to His
Majesty ; or
(ii) Persons who are or have at any time during the war
been members of any voluntary aid or other
voluntary organization and who are or have at any
time during the war been as members thereof actually
on service with His Majesty’s Naval, Military, or
Air Forces of New Zealand or of any other British
state or the colonies, dependencies, protectorates,
or mandated territories thereof respectively, or with
the naval, military, or air forces of any State for the
time being allied to His Majesty ; and
(iii) Who (in either case) may be sick, wounded, or out of
employment.
(h) The relief, assistance, or support of the dependants of
any persons who are described in clause (i) or clause (ii) of
the last preceding paragraph (g) hereof.

Declaring an Approved Patriotic Purpose under the Patriotic
Purposes Emergency Regulations 1939.

PURSUANT to Regulation 28 of the Patriotic Purposes
Emergency Regulations 1939, I, William Edward
Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, do hereby declare as
follows :—
(1) The declarations made by me respectively on the
4th day of October, 1939, and the 3rd day of November, 1939,
and published in the Gazette respectively on the 5th day of
October, 1939, at page 2656, and on the 9th day of November,
1939, at page 3046, are hereby revoked.
(2) The following shall be approved patriotic purposes
under the said regulations, namely :—
(a) The relief of distress occasioned by the war, whether
in New Zealand or elsewhere in the British Dominions, or
in any territory under His Majesty’s protection or mandate
or in any territory of any State allied to His Majesty whether
such territory is in enemy occupation or not.
(b) The supply during the war of comforts, conveniences,
special equipment, and assistance to members of—
(i) His Majesty’s Naval, Military, and Air Forces of New
Zealand or of any other British state or the colonies
or dependencies or mandated territories thereof
respectively, or the naval, military, and air forces
of any State at any time allied to His Majesty ;
(ii) The inter-colonial or foreign-going merchant navies of
New Zealand or of any other British state or the
colonies or dependencies or mandated territories
thereof respectively, or of any State at any time
allied to His Majesty ;
(iii) Any voluntary aid or other voluntary organization
actually on service with His Majesty’s Naval,
Military, and Air Forces of New Zealand or of any
other British state or the colonies or dependencies
or mandated territories thereof respectively, or with
the naval, military, or air forces of any State at any
time allied to His Majesty.
(c) The relief, assistance, and support of dependants of
members of any naval, military, or air force, merchant navy,
or voluntary organization referred to in the last preceding
clause (b) of this paragraph.
(d) The relief, assistance, and support of persons who
having at any time during the war been members of any
such naval, military, or air force, merchant navy, or
voluntary organization, as aforesaid, and having ceased to
be members of any such force, navy, or organization, may
be disabled or out of employment, or otherwise in need, and
the dependants of any such persons, or the dependants of any
members of such naval, military, or air force, merchant
navy, or voluntary organization, as aforesaid, who have lost
or may hereafter lose their lives as a result, direct or indirect,
of service in the war.
(3) The declarations contained in the last preceding para-
graph (2) hereof shall apply to the National Patriotic Fund
and to all Provincial Patriotic Funds established by the said
regulations.
(4) The following shall be an approved patriotic purpose
under the said regulations, namely :—
The relief, assistance, or support of members of any
such naval, military, or air force, merchant navy, or
voluntary organization, as aforesaid, who may be sick
or wounded, or prisoners of war.
(5) The declaration contained in the last preceding para-
graph (4) hereof shall apply to the National Patriotic Fund
only.

Notice respecting Proposed Abolition of Makarewa-Hedgehope
River District, County of Southland.

Wellington, 10th June, 1940.
IT is hereby notified that a petition has been presented
to His Excellency the Governor-General under the
River Boards Act, 1908, and amendments, praying for the
abolition of the Makarewa-Hedgehope River District, situated
in the County of Southland. All persons affected are hereby
called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions
against the proposed abolition of the district, which they
desire to lodge, within one month of the first publication of
this notice, such objections or petitions to be addressed to the
Honourable Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.
