Lands in Gisborne Land District for Selection.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Gisborne, 23rd April, 1940.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned sections
are open for selection, and applications will be received
at the District Lands and Survey Office, Gisborne, up to
4 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday, 12th June, 1940.

Section 1, Block XII, and Section 1, Block XV, Waioeka
Survey District, are Crown lands which are being offered under
the Land Act, 1924, and may, at the option of the successful
applicant, be purchased for cash or on deferred payments,
or be selected on renewable lease—Term: Sixty-six years.

Sections 3 and 5, Block XI, Waioeka Survey District, are
Education Reserves and are being offered under the Land
Act, 1924, and the Education Reserves Act, 1928, and may
be selected on renewable lease only—Term: Thirty-three
years. The renewable leases carry a perpetual right of
renewal for similar terms as the original leases, the rentals for
each renewal being determined by fresh valuation at the end
of each successive term.

Applicants should appear personally for examination at
the District Lands and Survey Office, Gisborne, on Friday,
14th June, 1940, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant
is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land
Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.

Applicants are required to produce for inspection when
examined documentary evidence of their financial position,
such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from
managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms,
or from private persons or parents undertaking to give
financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially
should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and
supply guarantees of their own financial position.

The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the
examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is
required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit
comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease
fee, and amount of weighting for improvements.

SCHEDULE.

GISBORNE LAND DISTRICT.—THIRD-CLASS LAND.

Opotiki County.—Waioeka Survey District.

SECTION 1, Block XII, and Section 1, Block XV: Area,
587 acres 1 rood 20 perches. Capital value, £150. Deposit
on deferred payments, £10. Half-yearly instalment on
deferred payments, £4 11s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly
rent, £3.

Sections 3 and 5, Block XI: Area, 600 acres. Renewable
lease: Half-yearly rent, £3 16s.

The two areas make one holding and must be selected
together.

Weighted with £270 (payable in cash) for improvements,
comprising approximately 300 acres felling and grassing,
wool-shed, and approximately 425 chains old fencing.

These sections are situated near Opotiki on the Waioeka-
Matawai Road, about twenty-five miles from Opotiki. With
the exception of about 80 acres, the whole area was originally
felled and grassed, but of the original grassed area approxi-
mately 867 acres has reverted to fern and second growth.
Area comprises steep hilly country rising to an altitude of
approximately 1,700 ft. above sea-level. The soil is of a
light quality resting on clay and shale-rock formation, and
permanent running streams provide a good water-supply.

Town Lands in Westland Land District for Selection on
Renewable Lease.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Hokitika, 23rd April, 1940.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned sections
are open for selection on renewable lease under the
Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the
District Lands and Survey Office, Hokitika, up to 4 o’clock
p.m. on Monday, 17th June, 1940.

Applicants should appear personally for examination at
the District Lands and Survey Office, Hokitika, on Wednesday,
19th June, 1940, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant
is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land
Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.

Applicants are required to produce for inspection when
examined documentary evidence of their financial position,
such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from
managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms,
or from private persons or parents undertaking to give
financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially
should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and
supply guarantees of their own financial position.

The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the
examination of applicants, and the successful applicants will
be required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a
deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period
rent, and lease fee.

The sections are situated within the Westland Mining
District and are offered in terms of section 153 of the Land
Act, 1924, which provides that no right to any mineral
under the surface shall pertain to the lessees whose rights
shall be to the surface soil only.

SCHEDULE.

WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT.—TOWN LANDS.

Borough of Runanga.—Town of Runanga.—Westland Mining
District.—Golden Survey District.

SECTION 7, Block XLII: Area, 1 rood 3-8 perches. Capital
value, £50; half-yearly rent, £1 5s.

Section 8, Block XLIII: Area, 34-9 perches. Capital
value, £80; half-yearly rent, £2.

These sections which are suitable for residential purposes
are situated in the Town of Runanga, seven miles from
Greymouth by good metalled road and railway.

Settlement Land in Canterbury Land District for Selection on
Renewable Lease.

is open for selection on renewable lease under the
Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925 ;
and applications will be received at the District Lands and
Survey Office, Christchurch, up to noon on Monday, 18th
May, 1940.

Applicants should appear personally for examination at the
District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, on Tuesday,
14th May, 1940, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant
is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land
Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.

Applicants are required to produce for inspection when
examined documentary evidence of their financial position,
such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from
managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms,
or from private persons or parents undertaking to give
financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially
should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and
supply guarantees of their own financial position.

Settlement.

SECTIONS 1A, 2, and R.S. 37384,† Block VIII: Area,
410 acres 3 roods 9 perches. Capital value, £1,540; half-
yearly rent, £33 10s.

  • Capital value includes the sum of £93 for the value of
    improvements belonging to the Crown.

Weighted with £834 for improvements, comprising
dwelling, wool-shed, milking-shed and yards, garage, piggeries
and fowl-run, sheep-yards, drainage, planting, and 332 chains
party boundary and subdivisional fencing. This sum is
payable in cash, or by payment of a deposit of £149, the
balance to be secured on thirty-year table mortgage to the
