CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
Correcting Notice.
Department of Lands and Survey,
Wellington, 19th March, 1940.
IN the notice appearing in Gazette No. 14, 22nd February, 1940, page 308, in respect of Section 18, Block VI, Town of Rangataua, town land in Wellington Land District for selection on renewable lease, the following alteration should be noted:—
For “half-yearly rental, 5s. 6d.,” read “half-yearly rental, 2s. 9d.”

Settlement Land in North Auckland Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.
North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office,
Auckland, 19th March, 1940.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned property is open for selection on renewable lease under the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925; and applications will be received at the North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 15th April, 1940.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, on Wednesday, 17th April, 1940, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined documentary evidence of their financial position, such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms, or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and supply guarantees of their own financial position.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease fee, and deposit in reduction of weighting for improvements.
SCHEDULE.
NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS SETTLEMENT LAND.
Hobson County.—Tangowahine Settlement.
PART Section 15s and Section 16s: Area, 785 acres.* Capital value, £1,400; half-yearly rent, £35.
*Area subject to slight alteration.
Weighted with £1,143 for improvements comprising five-roomed house, washhouse, cow-shed, pig-sties, 52 chains road fence, 235 chains subdivisional fence, half-share 75 chains boundary fence, 15 chains drain, and 500 acres worn-out pasture. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £43, the balance may be repaid over thirty-three years on a thirty-four and one-half year table by half-yearly instalments of principal and interest combined amounting to £33 11s. 11d., the balance owing at the end of the thirty-three years being then payable in cash.
This property is situated on the Tangowahine–Whangarei main metal road, four and a half miles from Tangowahine Post-office, three and a half miles from Tangowahine School, five miles from Kirikopuni Railway-station, and thirteen miles from Mangawhare Saleyards. The area comprises about 160 acres swamp, 126 acres bush, 200 acres easy undulating to hilly land, the balance being hilly to steep; about 500 acres is in worn-out pasture. The soil is fair-quality clay on sandstone formation; watered by swampy gullies and springs, only fair. Subdivided into five paddocks and is suitable for grazing. Blackberry in evidence, also some ragwort and foxglove.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section is open for selection on renewable lease under the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, up to noon on Monday, 22nd April, 1940.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, on Wednesday, 24th April, 1940, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken period rent, lease fee, and deposit in reduction of weighting for improvements.
SCHEDULE.
WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—TOWN LAND.
Borough of Raetihi.—Raetihi Township.
SECTION 163, Block VIII: Area, 1 rood. Capital value, £20; half-yearly rent, 10s.
Weighted with £406 5s. for improvements, comprising fencing, dwelling, outbuildings, septic-tank, &c. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £6 5s. the balance may be repaid by instalments based on fifteen-year table at 5 per cent.; half-yearly instalments, £19 2s. 4d.
This section is situated in Queen Street, Raetihi. The dwelling, which is in need of repair, is of bungalow design consisting of four rooms, washhouse, water-closet, and attached shed. Conveniences consist of high-pressure range, electric hot-water, drainage, bath, sink, copper, and tubs.

Land in Nelson Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section is open for selection on renewable-lease under the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Nelson, up to 11 o’clock a.m., on Tuesday, 7th May, 1940.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Nelson, on Thursday, 9th May, 1940, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined documentary evidence of their financial position, such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms, or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial assistance. NOTE.—This section is offered in terms of section 153 of the Land Act, 1924, which provides that no right to any mineral under the surface shall pertain to the lessee, whose rights shall be to the surface soil only.
SCHEDULE.
NELSON LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Takaka County.—Takaka Survey District.—Karamea Mining District.
SECTION 4 (formerly part Section 3), Block XII: Area, 151 acres. Capital value, £80; half-yearly rent, £1 12s.
Weighted with £155 for improvements, comprising whare, fencing, felling, and grassing. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of not less than £80, the balance may be left on instalment mortgage to the State Advances Corporation for a term of ten years with interest at 4½ per cent. reducible to 4¼ per cent. for prompt payment. Legal costs, viz., £2 9s. in connection with the mortgage will be payable by the successful applicant.
This property is situated on Takaka Hill Road (metalled), four miles from Upper Takaka Post-office, four miles and a half from Upper Takaka School, and fifteen miles from Takaka Saleyards. The section, which has been all felled and grassed, is suitable as a dry sheep and cattle run-off for a property in the vicinity. Soil is fair loam resting on limestone formation; watered by permanent streams. The clearing has deteriorated and fern is in evidence.
