Colour: The percentage of colour specified for solid red, partial red, and striped varieties should mean the portion of the surface which has reached full characteristic red colour for the variety, and “Colour showing” shall mean quite noticeable blush colour. An apple having solid red or red striped colour of a lighter shade than that considered as full characteristic red colour for the variety may be admitted to a grade provided it has sufficient additional area covered so that the apple has as good an appearance as one with the minimum percentage of full characteristic red colour for the variety for that grade. Faded brown stripes shall not be considered as colour.
For yellow and green varieties a natural blush is not objected to.
Sturmers for inclusion in XF and F grades shall have a bronze-reddish blush or tint in association with a ground colour of light green and may carry the full percentage of russet allowed for the respective grades. Light green, clear-skinned Sturmer apples with smooth russeting which does not extend over an aggregate area in the case of XF of more than 10 per cent., and in the case of Fancy grade fruit of more than 60 per cent., shall also be eligible for the respective grades mentioned. Dark-green, dull-skinned sturmers are not eligible for inclusion in XF or F grades.
Gravenstein XF pronounced stripe; F and Com. grade, clean bright skinned fruit.
