His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve, under section 6 (a), Defence Act, 1909, of the formation of the undermentioned unit of the Territorial Force:-
The New Zealand Scottish Regiment,
with headquarters at Wellington.

Notice as to an Area in Auckland Land District declared to be a Fire District.
Pursuant to section 27 of the Forests Act, 1921–22, and section 6 of the Forests Amendment Act, 1925, I do hereby notify that, on the recommendation of the Director of Forestry and the Land Board of the district, the area described in the Schedule hereto is hereby declared by me to be a fire district; and I do further specify the period from the 1st day of October in any year to the 15th day of April in the following year, inclusive, as the period during which it shall not be lawful for any person within the said district, save pursuant to the written permit of a Forest Officer, to set on fire, or cause to be set on fire, any timber (whether standing or not); or any undergrowth, or any debris from forest operations or any land-clearing operations, or any grass or other specially inflammable material, without taking such precautions as may be prescribed by a Forest Officer.
SCHEDULE.
Auckland Land District.—Rotorua Forest-Conservation Region.
Tauhara Fire District.
All that area in the Auckland Land District, Taupo County, containing approximately 44,000 acres, situated in Blocks XI, XII, XV, and XVI, Tatua Survey District, Blocks IX, XIII, and XIV, Takapau Survey District, Blocks III, IV, VII, VIII, and XII, Tauhara Survey District, and Blocks I, II, and V, Otukotara Survey District, and bounded generally as follows : Towards the north by the Waikato River ; towards the north-east by Lot 1 of Kaingaroa No. 2 West, No. 1 Block ; towards the south-east by lines 40 chains north-west of and parallel to the north-western boundaries of Run 60 (State forest—Gazette 1930, page 2639) to the south-western boundary of Kaingaroa No. 2 West No. 2 Block, and by a right line to the 10-mile peg on the Taupo-Napier Road ; towards the south-west by the centre of the Taupo-Napier Road, another public road and Section 1, Block III, Tauhara Survey District, to the southern boundary of S.G. Run 74 ; and towards the north-west by a line parallel to the north-western boundary of Kaingaroa No. 2 West No. 2 Block, and part of the north-western boundary of Kaingaroa No. 2 West No. 1 Block, to the Waikato River. As the same is more particularly delineated on plan No. 47/38, deposited in the Head Office of the State Forest Service at Wellington, and thereon bordered blue.

Hauraki Plains Rating District.—Penalty on Overdue Rates.

In pursuance of section 76 of the Rating Act, 1925, and the Hauraki Plains Act, 1926, the ratepayers within the district constituted by the last-mentioned Act are hereby notified that 10 per cent. additional will be added to all rates for the year ending 31st March, 1939, unpaid on 27th February, 1939.
Rates may be paid at any money-order office, or to the Collector of Rates, Lands and Survey Department, Private Bag, Auckland, C 1.

The following result of the election of a member of the Balclutha, Kaitangata, and Milton Fire Boards by fire-insurance companies has been reported to the Minister of Internal Affairs, and is notified in accordance with the rules under the Fire Brigades Act, 1926 :-

The Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendments. Fixing the Closing-hours of Grocers' Shops within the Town District of Kaitaia.
Whereas a requisition in writing signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers' shops within the Town District of Kaitaia has been forwarded to me desiring that all such shops within the said town district be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m. :
And whereas I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said town district :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I do hereby direct that on and after the 27th day of February, 1939, all the grocers’ shops within the Town District of Kaitaia shall be closed accordingly.

The Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendments. Prohibiting the Sale within the Borough of Lawrence of Certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Grocer.
Whereas a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops within the Borough of Lawrence has been forwarded to me desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a grocer—namely, tea, coffee, cocoa, sugar, flour, spices, condiments (other than pickles or sauces), candles, cornflour, oatmeal, oatina, creamoata, sardines and other tinned fish, soda, soap (other than toilet soap), starch, and blue—be prohibited during such time as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
And whereas I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the said trade within the said borough, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 27th day of February, 1939, the sale of the said goods within the said borough shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the hour of 5.15 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays after the hour of 8.30 p.m.
