THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service:—
Eric Walter Abercrombie,
to be Returning Officer for the Auckland East Electoral District for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments, as from the 17th day of August, 1939.
Thomas Irvine,
to be Registrar of Marriages and Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Hikurangi, and Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Hikurangi, as from the 10th day of August, 1939.
William Leslie Shirteliffe Britton,
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Tokomaru Bay, as from the 1st day of August, 1939.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block V, Russell Survey District, for the Purposes of a Recreation-ground.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for the purposes of a recreation-ground: And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Opua and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.
SCHEDULE.
APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken: 1 acre 3 roods 24 perches.
Being Section 1, Block VII, Town of Opua.
Situated in Block V, Russell Survey District (Auckland R.D.). (S.O. 30323.)
In the North Auckland Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 103948, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, and thereon coloured yellow.

Classification of Road in Geraldine County.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Transport Department Act, 1929, and the Heavy Motor-vehicle Regulations, 1932, the Minister of Transport does hereby declare that the road described in the Schedule hereto shall belong to the class of road stated in the said Schedule.
SCHEDULE.
GERALDINE COUNTY.
ROAD classified in Class Three: Available for the use thereon of any heavy motor-vehicle (other than a multi-axled heavy motor-vehicle) which with the load it is carrying weighs not more than 7 tons, or any multi-axled heavy motor-vehicle which when carrying a load has an axle weight of not more than 4½ tons on any one axle.

Classification of Road in Ashburton and Geraldine Counties.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Transport Department Act, 1929, and the Heavy Motor-vehicle Regulations, 1932, the Minister of Transport does hereby approve of the Main Highways Board’s proposed classification of the road described in the Schedule hereto and situated in the Ashburton and Geraldine Counties.
SCHEDULE.
ASHBURTON AND GERALDINE COUNTIES.
ROAD Classified in Class Three: Available for the use thereon of any heavy motor-vehicle (other than a multi-axled heavy motor-vehicle) which with the load it is carrying weighs not more than 7 tons, or any multi-axled heavy motor-vehicle which when carrying a load has an axle weight of not more than 4½ tons on any one axle.
Christchurch-Dunedin Main Highway No. 101 (all that portion in the Ashburton and Geraldine Counties, known as the Rangitata Deviation, commencing at Hinds, proceeding thence generally in a south-westerly and southerly direction and terminating at Winchester).

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Transport Department Act, 1929, and the Heavy Motor-vehicle Regulations, 1932, the Minister of Transport does hereby approve of the Main Highways Board’s proposed classification of the road described in the Schedule hereto and situated in the Vincent County.

VINCENT COUNTY.
ROAD classified in Class Three: Available for the use thereon of any heavy motor-vehicle (other than a multi-axled heavy motor-vehicle) which with the load it is carrying weighs not more than 7 tons, or any multi-axled heavy motor-vehicle which when carrying a load has an axle weight of not more than 4½ tons on any one axle.
Alexandra-Clyde Main Highway No. 152 (all that portion within Vincent County).

Approval of Testing Officers under the Motor-drivers’ Regulations, 1931.
IN terms of regulation 5 of the Motor-drivers’ Regulations, 1931, the Minister of Transport does hereby approve, until further notice, of the persons named in Column 2 of the Schedule hereunder being Testing Officers under the said regulations for the authority specified in Column 1 of the said Schedule.
