His Excellency the Governor-General, by his Deputy, has been pleased to approve the appointment of Eric Primrose Chapman as a Probationary Sub-Lieutenant Royal Naval Reserve (New Zealand Division), to date 1st August, 1939.

Lieutenant-Commander Herbert Guy Abbott Lewis, Royal Navy, H.M.S. “Philomel,” in continuation of present appointment and vice Monckton as from date of joining of Lieutenant J. P. P. Michell.
Lieutenant John Percy Pitt Michell, Royal Navy, to H.M.S. “Philomel” additional, to date 6th July, 1939, and vice Lewis as from date of joining.

His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, and retirements of Officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:—
COMMANDS.
Colonel H. B. Maunsell, O.B.E., E.D., is appointed to command the 2nd N.Z. Mounted Rifles Brigade. Dated 1st June, 1939.
Colonel J. Ll. Saunders, D.S.O., V.D., is appointed to command the 2nd N.Z. Infantry Brigade. Dated 1st June, 1939.
Colonel S. D. Mason, E.D., is appointed to command the 3rd N.Z. Infantry Brigade. Dated 1st June, 1939.
Lieutenant-Colonel L. C. Chaytor, M.C., V.D., from the Reserve of Officers, The Nelson-Marlborough Mounted Rifles, to be Colonel, and is appointed to command the 3rd N.Z. Mounted Rifles Brigade. Dated 1st June, 1939.
Lieutenant-Colonel B. W. H. Smart, Queen Alexandra’s (Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles, is appointed to command the Regiment. Dated 1st June, 1939.
Major G. S. Wilson, The Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles, is appointed to command the Regiment. Dated 1st June, 1939.
Lieutenant-Colonel D. A. C. Lilburne, E.D., The Wellington West Coast Regiment, is appointed to command the 1st Battalion. Dated 1st June, 1939.
Lieutenant-Colonel A. J. M. Manson, M.C., E.D., The Hawke’s Bay Regiment, relinquishes command of the 1st Battalion and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class 1 (b), Area 5. Dated 31st May, 1939.
Major J. H. Irving, The Hawke’s Bay Regiment, is appointed to command the 1st Battalion. Dated 1st June, 1939.
Lieutenant-Colonel F. S. Varnham, M.C., E.D., The Taranaki Regiment, is appointed to command the 1st Battalion. Dated 1st June, 1939.
THE WAIKATO MOUNTED RIFLES.
Major J. F. Potter, V.D., from the Nelson-Marlborough Mounted Rifles, to be Major, with seniority from 28th November,1930. Dated 18th July, 1939.
THE OTAGO MOUNTED RIFLES.
The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 22, dated 5th April, 1939, relative to Captain L. W. Neill, is hereby cancelled.
THE WELLINGTON EAST COAST MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant G. A. E. Hook is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class 1 (b), Area 7. Dated 21st July, 1939.
THE NELSON-MARLBOROUGH MOUNTED RIFLES.
Major J. F. Potter, V.D., is transferred to the Waikato Mounted Rifles. Dated 18th July, 1939.
REGIMENT OF N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Lieutenant H. H. Babington, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 2nd December, 1934, and is posted to the 17th Medium Battery. Dated 10th July, 1939.
Lieutenant F. S. Salinger, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 1st June, 1939, and is posted to the 14th Medium Battery. Dated 19th July, 1939.
Lieutenant A. Marbeck ceases to be posted to the 1st Field Battery and is posted to the 3rd Field Battery. Dated 18th July, 1939.
2nd Lieutenant G. H. Strange, 13th Heavy Battery, to be Lieutenant. Dated 13th July, 1939.
CORPS OF N.Z. ENGINEERS.
Lieutenant G. A. Phear ceases to be seconded to the 4th Cadet Battalion, The Canterbury Regiment, and is posted to the Retired List with permission to retain his rank and wear the prescribed uniform. Dated 12th July, 1939.
Herbert St. Clair Porter Andrews, A.M.I.C.E., to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) and is posted to the 3rd Field Company. Dated 4th July, 1939.
Leslie Henry Samuel Hirst, A.M.I.C.E., to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) and is posted to the 2nd Field Company. Dated 1st July, 1939.
THE HAURAKI REGIMENT.
Lieutenant F. Cook, 2nd Cadet Battalion, is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class l (b), Area 2. Dated 13th July, 1939.
THE NORTH AUCKLAND REGIMENT.
The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) A. D. McDell, 1st Cadet Battalion, is confirmed.
George Gardiner Harvey to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) and is posted to the 2nd Cadet Battalion. Dated 21st June, 1939.
THE WELLINGTON WEST COAST REGIMENT.
Major D. A. C. Lilburne, E.D., 1st Battalion, to be Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 1st June, 1939.
THE CANTERBURY REGIMENT.
The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) R. S. Jones, 2nd Cadet Battalion, is confirmed.
