The Coinage Proclamation 1939.

A PROCLAMATION.

P URSUANT to section eight of the Coinage Act, 1933, and for the purposes of determining first, the dimensions and general designs for the silver coins mentioned in the Schedule to the said Act, secondly, the design for a silver half-crown to be made and issued during the year 1940, and thirdly, the denominations, compositions, weights, dimensions, and designs of bronze coins to be made and issued under the said Act, and the amount of the remedy to be allowed in the making thereof, I, George Vere Arundell, Viscount Galway, Governor-General, do hereby proclaim as follows:

1. This Proclamation may be cited as the Coinage Proclamation 1939.

PART I.-SILVER COINS GENERALLY.

2. The designs for the silver coins mentioned in the Schedule to the said Act shall be as follows:-

(i) Half-crown: Subject to the provisions contained in Part II of this Proclamation every half-crown shall have for the obverse impression the uncrowned effigy of His Majesty the King with the inscription "George VI King Emperor" and for the reverse impression the Ensigns armorial of the Dominion on their shield surmounted by the Royal Crown and surrounded by Maori carvings with the inscription "New Zealand Half-crown" within the border and the date of the year below.

(ii) Florin: Every florin shall have the same obverse impression and inscription as the half-crown and for the reverse impression a representation of a Kiwi, with the inscription "New Zealand" above and "One Florin" and the date of the year below.

(iii) Shilling: Every shilling shall have the same obverse impression and inscription as the half-crown and for the reverse impression the figure of a Maori warrior in warlike attitude carrying a taiaha, on a plain ground, with the inscription "New Zealand" above and "One Shilling" and the date of the year below.
