THE following notice, received from the Borough of Milton, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.

BOROUGH OF MILTON.
PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Milton taken on the 23rd day of November, 1939, on the proposal of the Milton Borough Council to borrow the sum of nine thousand pounds for replacing entirely the wood-stave water-reticulation pipes with reinforced-concrete or Everite pipes:—

The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 37
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

The Sharebrokers Act, 1908.—Amendments to the Rules of the Auckland Stock Exchange.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General in Council has been pleased to approve of the following amendments to the rules of the Auckland Stock Exchange.

AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE.
AMENDMENTS TO RULES.
- That the following new rule be adopted and be deemed to be inserted after Rule 40:—
“40A. Any partnership engaged in sharebroking shall for the purpose of these rules be deemed to be a forbidden partnership unless at least half the partners are members of the exchange. After the 31st day of October, 1939, the committee may by written notice require any member who is a partner in a forbidden partnership to dissolve the same and unless upon the expiration of three calendar months from the date of giving such notice at least half the partners of such partnership are members of the exchange or the partnership has been dissolved the member receiving such notice shall be deemed to have retired from the exchange and the committee shall announce to the members that he has so retired and his name shall be erased from the list of members.”
- That Rule 34 be abrogated and the following rule adopted in substitution therefor:—
“34. (i) To procure funds for the exchange the committee may in its discretion from time to time by resolution make a levy on members and approved partners of such amount per head as it thinks fit provided always that the total amount per head of all such levies made in any financial year shall not exceed £40.
“Such levy shall become due and payable by every person liable to pay the same on the day following that on which he first receives or is deemed to have received notice thereof provided always that a discount or rebate of half the amount of the levy shall be allowed to any person paying the same within two calendar months of the due date and may at the discretion of the committee be allowed to any person paying not later than four calendar months after the due date.
“ A levy made as aforesaid shall be payable by every person who is a member of the exchange or an approved partner of a member at the date of the resolution making the levy provided that no approved partner who was approved prior to the 1st December, 1938, shall be liable for any levy made prior to the 1st November, 1942.
“Where the making of a levy has been announced at an official meeting of members by the chairman thereof every person then a member of the exchange or an approved partner of such a member shall be deemed to have received notice of the levy on the day of such meeting.
“A new member or approved partner shall be liable to pay the levy last made prior to his election or approval but in the same financial year as if he had been a member or approved partner at the date of the resolution making such levy and shall be deemed to have received notice of the levy on the day of his election or approval as the case may be provided always that in any such case the committee may if it considers it equitable so to do remit the whole or any part of such levy.
“(ii) The committee shall in respect of each calendar month of the financial year fix a fee (hereinafter referred to as a ‘clerk’s fee’) to be paid by every member or firm whose authorized clerk has at any time during such month attended an official meeting on his or their behalf for the purpose of making quotations or purchasing or selling shares. The fee for any month shall not exceed £1 13s. 4d. and shall be fixed either during or at any time before such month and shall become due and payable on the last day of such month. Where the employer of an authorized clerk is a firm the members thereof shall be jointly and severally liable for any clerk’s fee payable in respect of such clerk.
“Notice of the fixing of a ‘clerk’s fee’ shall be given to all members and shall be deemed to have been so given if it is announced at an official meeting of members by the chairman thereof.
“The committee may if it thinks it equitable remit or reduce the amount of the clerk’s fee in any particular case.
“(iii) If any levy or clerk’s fee for which any member is liable shall not be paid within four calendar months of the due date thereof he shall immediately on the expiration of such period be deemed to be suspended from the privileges of membership and shall continue so suspended until such
