  • Rental exemptions as above are conditional on improvements as stated hereunder, being effected annually during the exemption period in addition to the usual requirements under the Land Act, 1924: Section 27, £10; Section 45, £15; Section 47, £10; Section 46, £20; Section 44, £10.
    Section 27 is situated on the Paparore-Kaikino formed but not metalled side road twelve miles and a half from Kaitaia and eight miles and a half from Awanui Port and the Dairy Factory. Access is from the main north Kaitaia-Hohoura metalled road two miles and a half distant by a formed sandstone road which can be used in all weathers. The property comprises 15 acres swamp and 70 acres easy undulating sandhills covered in scrub and little gorse. Practically all ploughable. The soil is part peat swamp and part sandy loam resting on sandstone.
    Section 44 is adjacent to Section 27 and is served by the same access. It comprises 15 acres and a half of peat swamp, and 98 acres easy undulating, consolidated sandhills covered in scrub with a little scattered gorse. A small portion of the area is peat swamp, and the balance is poor sandy loam resting on sandstone.
    Section 45 is situated on the main North Road, eight miles from Awanui Port, twelve miles from Kaitaia, and five miles from the Paparore School. Access is by formed and metalled road from Kaitaia. The property comprises approximately 24 acres swamp, and 97 acres undulating to easy hilly consolidated sand-country covered in scrub with a little scattered gorse and rushes in the swamp. It is practically all ploughable. The soil, apart from the swamp, is a sandy loam resting on sandstone.
    Section 46 adjoins Section 45 and is served by the same access. The property comprises 38 acres of peat swamp, and 127 acres consolidated sand-country. This varies from very easy undulating to easy hilly with about 5 acres broken. Covered with scrub with a little scattered gorse and rushes in swamp. The soil, apart from the swamp, is sandy loam resting on sandstone.
    Section 47 is situated on the same road and adjoining Section 27. It is served by the same access and comprises 58 acres of peat swamp, and 59 acres easy undulating to fairly hilly country covered in fern, tea-tree, scrub, and hakea with a little scattered gorse. The soil is part peat swamp and part poor sandy loam resting on sandstone.
    Special Condition.—All the above sections are offered subject to drainage easements as shown on S.O. plan 28415.

Land in Nelson Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Nelson, 1st November, 1939.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section is open for selection on renewable lease under the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Nelson, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, 12th December, 1939.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Nelson, on Thursday, 14th December, 1939, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined documentary evidence of their financial position, such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters or credit from managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms, or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and supply guarantees of their own financial position.

The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease and mortgage fees, and deposit in reduction of weighting for improvements.
NOTE.—This land is offered in terms of section 153 of the Land Act, 1924, which provides that no right to any mineral under the surface shall pertain to the lessee, whose rights shall be to the surface soil only.


SCHEDULE.

NELSON LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Buller County.—Ngakawau Survey District.—Karamea Mining District.—Westport Harbour Endowment.

SECTION 11, Block I: Area, 50 acres. Capital value, £40; half-yearly rent, 16s.
Weighted with £265 for improvements, comprising dwelling (in poor repair), cow-byre, sheds, 25 chains fencing (mainly subdivisional), 20 acres felled and grassed, and 2 acres cleared and stumped. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £35, the balance may be left on instalment mortgage to the State Advances Corporation for a term of ten years with interest at 4½ per cent. reducible to 4¼ per cent. Legal costs—viz., £3 1s. (approximately), in connection with the mortgage, together with a proportionate part of insurance premium will be payable by the successful applicant.
This section is situated on Westport-Seddonville Road one mile from Granity Railway-station and Post-office, half a mile from School, and nineteen miles from Buller Valley Dairy Factory. Access is by good metalled road. The section is suitable for a workman’s home, about one-third of the area is in worn-out pasture, the balance being in natural state. A narrow strip along the frontage is flat, the balance being hillside, altitude running up to 200 ft. Soil is fair on the flat and poor on hillside, resting on sandstone formation. Watered by small creek.

Milling-timber for Sale by Public Tender.

NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the sale of the undermentioned milling-timber will close at the office of the State Forest Service, Palmerston North, at 3 o’clock p.m. on Friday, the 10th November, 1939.


SCHEDULE.

WELLINGTON FOREST-CONSERVATION REGION.—WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.

ALL the milling-timber on that piece of land containing approximately 406 acres, being Block II, Maungakaretu Survey District, State Forest No. 69, about eight miles from Hihitahi Railway-station.
The estimated quantity of milling-timber in cubic feet is 564,086, or in board feet 3,856,588, made up as follows:—
