Notice respecting Proposed Abolition of the South Hautapu Drainage District, County of Waikato.

Wellington, 5th January, 1939.

IT is hereby notified that a petition has been presented to His Excellency the Governor-General, under the Land Drainage Act, 1908, and its amendments, praying that the South Hautapu Drainage District may be abolished. All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the proposed abolition which they desire to lodge within one month from the first publication of this notice, such objections or petitions to be addressed to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.

The Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its Amendments.
Fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Boot and Shoe Retailers', (2) Boot Repairers', (3) Clothiers', (4) Drapers', (5) Frock Sellers', (6) Furniture Dealers', (7) Jewellers' and (8) Tailors' shops in the Borough of Stratford.

WHEREAS requisitions in writing signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) boot and shoe retailer, (2) boot repairer, (3) clothier, (4) draper, (5) frock seller, (6) furniture dealer, (7) jeweller, and (8) tailor, within the Borough of Stratford have been forwarded to me desiring that all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows:

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 5 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions:

(1) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe, pursuant to section 14 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Thursday shall be 5 p.m. and the closing-hour on Friday shall be 9 p.m.;

(2) On the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year's Day, the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m.;

(3) On the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Good Friday, the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.;

(4) Where the occupier of a shop observes Saturday as the statutory closing-day and in any week Friday is observed as a public holiday, the closing-hour for such shop on the Thursday preceding such holiday shall be 9 p.m.

And whereas I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, I do hereby direct that on and after the 30th day of January, 1939, all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough shall be closed accordingly.

The notice dated the 9th November, 1915, and gazetted on the 18th November, 1915, fixing the closing-hours of watchmakers' and jewellers' shops in the Borough of Stratford shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Rangitaiki Drainage District.—Penalty on Overdue Rates.

Wellington, 11th January, 1939.

IN pursuance of section 76 of the Rating Act, 1925, and the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910, and its amendments, the ratepayers within the district constituted by the last-mentioned Act are hereby notified that ten per cent. additional will be added to all rates for the year ending 31st March, 1938, unpaid on 31st January, 1939.

Rates may be paid at any money-order office, or to the Collector of Rates, Lands and Survey Department, Private Bag, Auckland, Cl.
