Abolishing Otaki River District, County of Horowhenua, and Borough of Otaki.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the River Boards Act, 1908, as amended by the River Boards Amendment Act, 1913, it is, among other things, enacted that the Governor-General may, on petition signed by not less than a majority of the rate-payers of a river district, abolish any such district: And whereas a petition signed as aforesaid has been duly presented, praying that the Otaki River District, established under the said River Boards Act, 1908, may be abolished:

Now, therefore, I, George Vere Arundell, Viscount Galway, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the above-recited power and authority, do hereby proclaim and declare that the said Otaki River District shall be and the same is hereby abolished.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, this 17th day of December, 1938.

Land set apart as an Addition to a Public Domain.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section nine of section twelve of the Land Act, 1924, I, George Vere Arundell, Viscount Galway, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that from and after the date hereof the land comprised in the pieces of closed road described in the First Schedule hereto, being land which is adjacent to the Pounawea Domain described in the Second Schedule hereto, shall be deemed to be added to the said Pounawea Domain.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.

ALL that area containing by admeasurement 3 acres 0 roods 20 perches, more or less, being closed road 1491B, Block VI, Glenomaru Survey District, adjoining Sections 31, 53, 54, a closed road, and the Owaka River.

Also all that area containing by admeasurement 9 acres, more or less, being closed road 1492B, Block VI, Glenomaru Survey District, adjoining Sections 32, 80, 81, 82, 94, 95, and the Catlins River. As the same are more particularly shown on the plan marked L. and S. 1/500c, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

POUNAWEA DOMAIN.—OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.

ALL that area containing by admeasurement 52 acres 2 roods 36 perches, more or less, being Sections 25, 31, 32, 53, to 55, 58 to 61, 66, 67, 80, 81, 93, 95, and a closed road, Block VI, Glenomaru Survey District. As the same is more particularly shown on the Plan marked L. and S. 1/500B, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, this 17th day of December, 1938.

Amendments to the Regulations under the Government Railways Acts.

GALWAY, Governor-General.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 17th day of December, 1938.

Present:

THE RIGHT HON. M. J. SAVAGE PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the Government Railways Act, 1926, and its amendments, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby amend as from and including the eighth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and thirty-nine, the regulations made under the Government Railways Act, 1908, on the twelfth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two, and published in the Gazette of the fifteenth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two (as from time to time amended and as the same are enuring under the Government Railways Act, 1926), in the manner following, that is to say:—

(1) By adding to Regulation 1 the following definition:—
“‘Road Services Branch’ means the Department’s Road Passenger Services controlled by the Superintendent of Road Services.”

(2) By adding, immediately after paragraph (d) of Regulation 9, the following paragraph:—
“(dd) (i) In the case of a bus-driver or service-car driver, the Primary School Certificate of the Government Schools: Provided that this provision shall not be deemed to debar from appointment any person who on the 8th day of January, 1939, was engaged or under consideration for engagement as a bus-driver or service-car driver in a temporary capacity and who is otherwise eligible for appointment.

“(ii) In the case of a garage attendant or labourer in the Road Services Branch, the educational qualification prescribed for labourers in other than the Traffic Branch: Provided that applicants holding the Primary School Certificate of the Government Schools may be given preference in the matter of appointment.

“(iii) In the case of a garage assistant, the Fifth Standard of the Government Schools: Provided that applicants holding the Primary School Certificate of the Government Schools may be given preference in the matter of appointment.”
