Judges appointed to try Election Petition.


In the Supreme Court of New Zealand :

In the matter of the Electoral Act, 1927.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Electoral Act, 1927, I hereby nominate the Right Honourable Sir Michael Myers, G.C.M.G., and the Honourable Archibald William Blair, Judges of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, to be the Judges before whom shall take place the trial of the election petition following, that is to say:—

The petition of Clive Rutherford Cameron, of Kaikohe, Stock-agent, and Sidney Walter Smith, of Pakaraka, Farmer, against the return and election of Charles Wallace Boswell as Member of Parliament for the Electoral District of Bay of Islands, praying that it may be determined that Harold Fisher Guy, of Kaikohe, Solicitor, the other candidate for the election in the Electoral District of Bay of Islands, was duly elected.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor, Lyttelton Borough Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.

BOROUGH OF LYTTLETON.

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Lyttelton, taken on the 7th day of December, 1938, on the proposal of the Lyttelton Borough Council to borrow by way of a special loan within the meaning of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, a sum of £5,000 (five thousand pounds) for tar-sealing the streets in the borough :—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was .. 143
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 239

I therefore declare the proposal to be rejected.
