Wanganui Education Board.—Election of Member of Board.

IT is hereby publicly notified that only one nomination was received for the extraordinary vacancy in the Palmerston North Urban Area, viz., that of William Henry Brown.

In accordance with the Second Schedule to the Education Act, 1914, I hereby declare the said William Henry Brown duly elected a member of the Board.

Notice to Persons affected by Applications for Licenses under Part III of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936.

Retail Sale and Distribution of Motor-spirit.

I HEREBY give notice that applications have been received from—

(1) W. Cowern and Co., Ltd., for a license to sell (retail) motor-spirit at the company’s premises in Horopito.

(2) Crighton Bros., Ltd., for a license to sell (retail) motor-spirit from one petrol pump proposed to be installed at the company’s mill premises in Karioi.

(3) Farmers’ Transport, Limited, for a license to sell (retail) motor-spirit at a proposed service station at Waihi Beach.

(4) Pahiatua County Council, for a license to sell (retail) motor-spirit in drums to other local bodies at Pahiatua.

Any person who considers he will be materially affected by the decisions of the Bureau in respect of these applications, and who wishes to make representations accordingly, must furnish such representations in writing so as to reach the undersigned not later than the 8th November, 1938. All representations must set out clearly the grounds for same and include a statement showing the gallonage throughput of petrol sold and the nature of the business conducted by the person making the representations.

I HEREBY give notice that an application has been received from Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., Wellington, for a license to carry on the industry of the importation and wholesale distribution of motor-spirit.

Any person who considers he will be materially affected by the decision of the Bureau in respect of this application, and who wishes to make representations accordingly, must furnish such representations in writing so as to reach the undersigned not later than the 10th November, 1938.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

Land in North Auckland Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office,
Auckland, 26th October, 1938.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section is open for selection on renewable lease under the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 5th December, 1938.

Applicants should appear personally for examination at the North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, on Wednesday, 7th December, 1938, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.

Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined documentary evidence of their financial position, such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms, or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and supply guarantees of their own financial position.

The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease and mortgage fees, and deposit on account of weighting for improvements.


SCHEDULE.

NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Whangarei County.—Opua-whanga Survey District.—Puhi Puhi Mining District.

(Exempt from payment of rent for three years.*)

SECTION 17, Block I: Area, 440 acres. Capital value, £340; half-yearly rent, £6 16s.

*Rental exemption is conditional on top-dressing to the value of £34 being distributed annually on pastures during the concession period.

Weighted with £1,408 for improvements, comprising 150 acres felled, burned, and grassed, 40 acres cleared and surface sown (partly reverted), 27 acres bush cleared, stumped, ploughed, and cultivated in good grass, 172 chains road fencing, 220 chains internal fencing, 66 chains boundary-fencing, dwelling, cow-byre and yards, three poultry houses, implement-shed, barn, and man’s room, combined water-supply. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £158, the balance will be secured by (1) a first mortgage to State Advances Corporation for £800 payable over a term of thirty-five years by quarterly payments of £11 11s. 8d., and (2) a second mortgage to the Lands Department for £450 payable over a term of twenty-five years and a half with half-yearly payments of £15 15s. Costs in connection with preparation of mortgages payable by selector.

Property is situated on Whangarei–Russell Road, eight miles from Whakapara Railway-station and four miles from Helena Bay School and Post-office. Access is by good metalled road. The section comprises about 190 acres in pasture (of which 27 acres are good, 70 acres fair, and 93 acres poor and reverted), 200 acres in bush in steep gullies, and 50 acres in poor tea-tree. Watered by permanent streams with pump and tanks. Buildings with exception of cow-shed are in good order. The property is suitable for dairying.

Land in Otago Land District for Lease by Public Auction.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Dunedin, 25th October, 1938.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section will be offered for selection on renewable lease by public auction at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, on Thursday, 15th December, 1938, at 2.30 o’clock p.m., under the provisions of the Land Act, 1924.

NOTE.—This land is offered in terms of section 153 of the Land Act, 1924, which provides that no right to any mineral under the surface shall pertain to the lessee, whose rights shall be to the surface soil only.


SCHEDULE.

OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.—SUBURBAN LAND.
Vincent County.—Tiger Hill Survey District.—Otago Mining District.

SECTION 108, Block II: Area, 1 acre 2 roods 23 perches. Upset half-yearly rent, 14s.

Weighted with £1 17s. 6d. (payable in cash) for improvements, comprising fencing.

This section is situated close to the Omakau Township and about half a mile from the railway-station. It has a level frontage, but falls away towards the back boundary, and is somewhat broken.
