The Rural Intermediate Credit Act, 1927.—Appointment of
Member of District Rural Intermediate Credit Board.
IT is hereby notified for public information that the Rural
Intermediate Credit Board, acting in pursuance and
exercise of the authority conferred upon it by section 14 of
the Rural Intermediate Credit Act, 1927, and of all other
powers and authorities it in that behalf enabling, has appointed
Robert James Watt,
of Kakaramea, Farmer, to be a member of the Taranaki
District Rural Intermediate Credit Board in succession to
Mr. F. H. Waters.

Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22.—Prohibiting the Sale within
the Borough of Tauranga of certain Goods comprised in the
Trade of a Tobacconist.
WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority
of the occupiers of all the tobacconists’ shops within
the Borough of Tauranga, has been forwarded to me desiring
that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a
tobacconist—namely, smoking requisites—be prohibited
during such time as the said shops are required to be closed
in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
And whereas I, Hubert Thomas Armstrong, Minister of
Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is com-
prised in the said trade within the said borough and that the
signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers
of all the said shops within the said borough :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act,
I do hereby direct that on and after the 22nd day of August,
1938, the sale of the said goods within the said borough shall
be and is hereby prohibited as follows : On Mondays, Tues-
days, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the hour of 5.30 p.m.,
and on Fridays after the hour of 9 p.m. with the following
exceptions : (1) When Anniversary Day, Good Friday, Anzac
Day, or the King’s Birthday falls on the day on which the
late night is usually observed, then on the working-day imme-
diately preceding such day the sale of the said goods is pro-
hibited after the hour of 9 p.m.; (2) On the working-day
immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the working-
day immediately preceding New Year’s Day the sale of the
said goods is prohibited after the hour of 10.30 p.m.

The Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22.—Fixing the Closing-hours
of (1) Men’s Hairdressers’ and (2) Tobacconists’ Shops
within the Borough of Tauranga.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded
to me from the occupiers of shops in each of the
trades of (1) men’s hairdresser, and (2) tobacconist within
the Borough of Tauranga pursuant to section 32 of the Shops
and Offices Act, 1921–22:
And whereas I, Hubert Thomas Armstrong, Minister of
Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition
represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each
of the said trades within the said borough :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I do
hereby direct that on and after the 22nd day of August, 1938,
all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough
shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows :
On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at
5.30 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m. with the following
exceptions : (1) When Anniversary Day, Good Friday,
Anzac Day, or the King’s Birthday falls on the day on which
the later night is usually observed, then the closing-hour on
the working-day immediately preceding such day shall be
9 p.m.; (2) On the working-day immediately preceding
Christmas Day and on the working-day immediately preceding
New Year’s Day the closing-hour shall be 10.30 p.m.
The notice gazetted the 4th March, 1915, fixing the closing-
hours of hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops within the
Borough of Tauranga shall be and is hereby cancelled as
from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.
