SHIPPING AND SEAMEN AMENDMENT ACT, 1936: ASSENT AND COMMENCEMENT.

NOTICE is hereby given in pursuance of the Regulations Act, 1936, of the making of the above-described regulations under the above-entitled Act.

Serial number: 1938/69.

Date of enactment: 4th day of February, 1938.

Copies can be purchased at the Government Printing and Stationery Office, Lambton Quay, Wellington. Price for cash with order 2d., plus postage 1d. extra. Prices for quantities supplied on application. Copies may be ordered by quoting above serial number.

Appointment of Law Draftsman and Assistant Law Draftsman.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased, in terms of the Statutes Drafting and Compilation Act, 1920, to appoint

Howard Dartrey Charles Adams, Esquire, LL.B.

to be the Law Draftsman, vice James Christie, Esquire, C.M.G., LL.M. (who has retired from the office of Law Draftsman while retaining the office of Compiler of Statutes in terms of the said Act), and also to appoint

John Stanhope Reid, Esquire, LL.B.

to be an Assistant Law Draftsman.

Appointment in the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy.

Paymaster Lieutenant Herbert Russell Sleeman, New Zealand Division, to H.M.S. “Philomel,” additional, as Assistant Naval Secretary, and as Controller of Finance and Stores, in continuation of present appointment, to date 1st March, 1938.

Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, and Resignations of Officers of the N.Z. Military Forces.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, and resignations of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:—

STAFF AND COMMANDS.

Lieutenant-Colonel B. S. Finn, D.S.O., N.Z. Dental Corps, is granted an extension of his appointment as Director of Dental Services to 3rd January, 1939.

Major E. E. Elphick, M.R.C.V.S., N.Z. Veterinary Corps, is granted an extension of his appointment as Assistant Director of Veterinary Services, Central Military District, to 31st March, 1939.

Major J. M. Samson, the Otago Regiment, to be Lieutenant-Colonel and is seconded to command the 3rd Composite Battalion. Dated 10th November, 1937.

THE CANTERBURY YEOMANRY CAVALRY.

2nd Lieutenant D. F. Anderson, the Canterbury Regiment, ceases to be attached. Dated 10th May, 1938.

REGIMENT OF N.Z. ARTILLERY.

Captain E. C. Schnackenberg, from the Corps of N.Z. Engineers, to be Captain, with seniority from 11th July, 1934, and is posted to the 13th Heavy Battery. Dated 2nd May, 1938.

The undermentioned are transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), Area 1:—

Captain H. de Wolfe, E.D., 21st Field Battery. Dated 9th May, 1938.

Lieutenant J. W. Moodie, 18th Anti-Aircraft Battery. Dated 5th May, 1938.

Lieutenant N. W. M. Hawkins, 16th Light Battery, to be Captain. Dated 25th November, 1937.

The undermentioned officers, Southern Artillery Group, are transferred to the Canterbury Regiment. Dated 1st September, 1937:—

The undermentioned officers, Southern Artillery Group, are transferred to the Otago Regiment. Dated 1st September, 1937:—

Lieutenant J. L. G. Carnachan, the Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own), ceases to be attached to the 1st Heavy Artillery Group. Dated 1st September, 1937.

2nd Lieutenant E. W. Harrop ceases to be posted to the 18th Anti-Aircraft Battery and is posted to the 10th Field Battery. Dated 20th May, 1938.

Lawrence Arthur Radford, to be 2nd Lieutenant, and is posted to the 2nd Medium Battery. Dated 2nd September, 1937.

CORPS OF N.Z. ENGINEERS.

Captain E. C. Schnackenberg ceases to be attached to and is transferred to the Regiment of N.Z. Artillery. Dated 2nd May, 1938.

N.Z. CORPS OF SIGNALS.

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 1, dated 13th January, 1938, relative to the appointment of Douglas McNeil Burns, B.Sc., to 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) is hereby cancelled. Dated 3rd May, 1938.

The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants (on probation) and are posted to the Central Depot. Dated 1st April, 1938:—

Robert Leslie Goldfinch, B.Sc.,
Henry Wood Wilkinson, B.Sc.

THE AUCKLAND REGIMENT (COUNTESS OF RANFURLY’S OWN.)

Lieutenant J. L. G. Carnachan ceases to be attached to the Regiment of N.Z. Artillery and is posted to the 3rd Cadet Battalion with seniority from 4th March, 1934. Dated 1st September, 1937.

Lieutenant H. W. King, from the Canterbury Regiment, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 25th February, 1932, and is posted to the 3rd Cadet Battalion. Dated 17th May, 1938.

THE HAURAKI REGIMENT.

2nd Lieutenant W. Dickson, 1st Cadet Battalion, to be Lieutenant. Dated 23rd March, 1938.

2nd Lieutenant L. N. Scott, 1st Cadet Battalion, resigns his commission. Dated 13th May, 1938.

The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) T. G. Holmes, 1st Cadet Battalion, is confirmed.

THE WELLINGTON REGIMENT.

Lieutenant B. N. Vickerman, 1st Battalion, to be Captain. Dated 1st May, 1938.

2nd Lieutenant R. M. McLeay, 1st Battalion, to be Lieutenant. Dated 2nd January, 1938.

Thomas Ronald Hawthorn to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) and is posted to the 3rd Cadet Battalion. Dated 7th February, 1938.

THE WELLINGTON WEST COAST REGIMENT.

Lieutenant D. N. Ferguson, 2nd Cadet Battalion, to be Captain. Dated 21st March, 1936.

Lieutenant F. R. W. Andrews ceases to be seconded to the 2nd Composite Battalion and is transferred to the Canterbury Regiment. Dated 18th May, 1938.
