Class A : On the unimproved value of all lands classified as Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under section 6 of the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910, fourpence and eighty-five one-hundredths of a penny (4·85d.) in the pound.

Class B : On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class B threepence and twenty-three one-hundredths of a penny (3·23d.) in the pound.

Class C : On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class C one penny and sixty-one one-hundredths of a penny (1·61d.) in the pound.

Class D : On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class D fifty-one one-hundredths of a penny (0·51d.) in the pound.

Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act.—Notice of making and levying General Rates.

I, FRANK LANGSTONE, Minister of Lands, in the exercise of powers conferred upon me by the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910, and its amendments, and by section 11 of the Finance Act, (No. 2), 1937, do hereby make and levy on the unimproved value of all land within the district constituted under the said Act the general rates to meet maintenance costs for the period 1st March, 1937, to 31st March, 1938, as described in the Schedule hereto.

The amount of such rates will be payable on the 16th day of May, 1938.

The rate-book of the district is open for inspection at the office of the Collector of Rates, Chief Drainage Engineer’s Office, Room 45, Government Buildings, Customs Street West, Auckland, and a copy of same may be inspected at the office of the Chief Drainage Engineer, at Thornton, near Whakatane, at all times at which those offices are open for the transaction of public business.

SCHEDULE.

GENERAL RATES.

Class A : On the unimproved value of all lands classified as Class A by the arbitrators appointed under section 6 of the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910, threepence and twenty-four one-hundredths of a penny (3·24d.) in the pound.

Class B : On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class B twopence and sixteen one-hundredths of a penny (2·16d.) in the pound.

Class C : On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class C one penny and eight one-hundredths of a penny (1·08d.) in the pound.

Class D : On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class D thirty-six one-hundredths of a penny (0·36d.) in the pound.

(1) Chalky or Dark Cloud Inlet : Rock reported.

Position : 202° 1·2 miles from the south-eastern extremity of Cape Providence. Lat., 46° 02′ S.; long., 166° 28′ E. (approx.).

Details : The symbol for a rock awash marked “ Repd. (1938), P.A.” is to be inserted.

(2) Dusky Sound : Non-existence of Beacon.

Position : On Station Island. Lat., 45° 46′ S.; long., 166° 38′ E. (approx.).

Details : The beacon no longer exists and is to be expunged.

Removal of Light and Whistle Buoy for Overhaul.

Position : Lat., 43° 35′·5 S.; long., 173° 49′·6 E. (approx.).

Details : The light and whistle buoy will be removed for overhaul on or about the 16th inst. During its absence the position will be marked by an unlighted red can buoy. Further notice will be given when the buoy is replaced.

I, THOMAS MACALISTER DRAIN, Returning Officer for the purpose of the Firefight Committee elections under the Firefight Committee Regulations, 1928, do hereby declare that the following candidates have been duly nominated for the election of members of the Firefight Committee of the South Auckland Commercial Fruitgrowing District, nominations for which closed at Wellington at noon on the 28th day of April, 1938 :—
