THE Public Service Commissioners have made the following appointments in the Public Service:

James Hayes Finlay, to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Hamilton as from the 16th day of March, 1938.

Arthur Patrick Benjamin, to be Assistant Land Registrar for the District of Nelson for the purposes of section 4 of the Land Transfer Act, 1915, as from the 1st day of April, 1938.

Ralph Gordon Jolly, to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Fertilizers Act, 1928, as from the 23rd day of March, 1938.

Clarence Robert James Inder, to be Registrar of Marriages for the District of Riverton under the Marriage Act, 1908; Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Riverton under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1924; and Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Riverton under the Maori Births and Deaths Registration Regulations dated 4th February, 1935; as from the 8th day of March, 1938.

Reginald Rolfe Wright, to be Clerk of the Magistrates’ Court at Kaitaia for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, as from the 16th day of March, 1938.

Arthur Evan Dobbie, to be Registrar at Wanganui of the Supreme Court of New Zealand and Sheriff for the District of Wanganui and Rangitikei for the purposes of the Judicature Act, 1908; Clerk of the Magistrates’ Court at Wanganui for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928; Clerk of the Licensing Committee for the District of Wanganui; Local Patent Officer at Wanganui for the purposes of section 15 of the Patents, Designs, and Trade-marks Act, 1921–22; Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Wanganui for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments; and Returning Officer for the Wanganui Licensing District for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments; as from the 15th day of March, 1938.

Ernest Leslie Egarr, to be Clerk of the Magistrates’ Court at Balclutha for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928; Registrar of Marriages for the District of Balclutha under the Marriage Act, 1908; Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Balclutha under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1924; Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Clutha for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments; and Returning Officer for the Clutha Licensing District for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments; as from the 10th day of March, 1938.

Thomas McCulloch Brooks, to be Clerk of the Magistrates’ Court at Queenstown for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928; Clerk of the Warden’s Court, Receiver of Gold Revenue and Mining Registrar at Queenstown for the District of Otago, constituted under the Mining Act, 1926; Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Central Otago for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments; Returning Officer for the Central Otago Licensing District for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments; and Local Patent Officer at Queenstown for the purposes of section 15 of the Patents, Designs, and Trade-marks Act, 1921–22; as from the 7th day of March, 1938.

Arthur Frederic Owen Clarke, to be Clerk of the Magistrates’ Court at Stratford for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928; Clerk of the Licensing Committee for the District of Stratford; Registrar of Marriages for the District of Stratford under the Marriage Act, 1908; and Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Stratford under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1924; as from the 28th day of February, 1938.

Alfred Allan Besley, to be Registrar of Electors for the Electoral Districts of Dunedin Central, Dunedin North, Dunedin South, Dunedin West, and Chalmers for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments; Registrar of Marriages for the District of Dunedin under the Marriage Act, 1908; Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Dunedin under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1924; and Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Dunedin under the Maori Births and Deaths Registration Regulations dated 4th February, 1935; as from the 8th day of March, 1938.

Leslie Andrew Parlane, to be Registrar of Marriages for the District of Te Kuiti under the Marriage Act, 1908; Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Te Kuiti under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1924; and Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Te Kuiti under the Maori Births and Deaths Registration Regulations dated 4th February, 1935; as from the 3rd day of March, 1938.

Harold James Henderson, to be Returning Officer for the Electoral and Licensing Districts of Otaki for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and the Licensing Act, 1908, and their amendments, as from the 14th day of March, 1938.

Regmen James Treweek,* to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Slaughtering and Inspection Act, 1908, as from the 9th day of February, 1938.

Arthur Robert White, to be Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Manukau for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments, and Returning Officer for the Licensing District of Manukau for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments, as from the 8th day of March, 1938.

Roy Osmond Lamason, to be Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Grey Lynn for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments, and Returning Officer for the Licensing District of Grey Lynn for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments, as from the 8th day of March, 1938.

Gavin Eugene Pollock, to be Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court of New Zealand at Wellington and Deputy Registrar of the Court of Appeal of New Zealand for the purposes of the Judicature Act, 1908, as from the 8th day of March, 1938.

Leslie Diedrich James Smith, to be Registrar of Marriages for the District of Dannevirke under the Marriage Act, 1908; Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Dannevirke under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1924; and Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Dannevirke under the Maori Births and Deaths Registration Regulations dated 4th February, 1935, as from the 10th day of March, 1938.

Albert Edward Lawson, to be Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Onehunga, as from the 17th day of March, 1938.

Jack Douglas Snow, to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Kakahi, as from the 22nd day of March, 1938.

Hauraki Plains Rating District.—Penalty on Overdue Rates.

Department of Lands and Survey, Wellington, 28th March, 1938.

In pursuance of section 76 of the Rating Act, 1925, and the Hauraki Plains Act, 1926, the ratepayers within the District constituted by the last-mentioned Act are hereby notified that 10 per cent. additional will be added to all rates for the year ending 31st March, 1938, unpaid on 26th April, 1928.

Rates may be paid at any Money-order Office, on presentation of the original demand, or to the Collector of Rates, Lands and Survey Department, Private Bag, Auckland, C. I.
