Notice to Persons affected by Applications for Licenses under Part III of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936.
Retail Sale of Motor-spirit.
I HEREBY give notice that applications have been received from—
(1) J. H. M. Carpenter, for permission to move one of the petrol pumps at present operated by Supreme Motor Repairs, Ltd., on the corner of Crowhurst and Arthur Streets to the applicant company’s premises on the corner of Crowhurst and Station Streets, Newmarket.
(2) W. Fletcher Neal, for a license to sell (retail) motor-spirit at a proposed new garage on the corner of Gordon Road and Great South Road, Otahuhu.
(3) W. White and Sons, Ltd., for a license to sell (retail) motor-spirit at a proposed new service station on the corner of Grey and Pollen Streets, Thames.
Any person who considers he will be materially affected by the decisions of the Bureau in respect of these applications, and who wishes to make representations accordingly, must furnish such representations in writing so as to reach the undersigned not later than the 30th December, 1937. All representations must set out clearly the grounds for same and include a statement showing the gallonage throughput of petrol sold and the nature of the business conducted by the person making the representations.

Taking of Fish.
I HEREBY give notice that applications have been received from—
(1) D. M. Aston, for a license to take fish at French Pass and surrounding waters by means of a 2½ h.p. 14⅓ ft. motor-boat using set-nets, long and hand lines, and supplying the Wellington market.
(2) F. J. Hayes, for a license to take fish at Haumoana by means of a 35 h.p. 22 ft. motor-boat using long and hand lines, and supplying the Napier market.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—GISBORNE HARBOUR.
Alteration in Watch from Signal-station.
Position : Lat., 38° 40′ S. : Long., 178° 02′ E. (approx.).
Details : On and after the 10th January, 1938, the following alterations will be made to the watch from the Signal-station and to the working of the Inner harbour :—
Between midnight and 6 a.m., when no overseas vessel is lying in the roadstead, the present continuous watch will be discontinued and the Inner harbour closed except for vessels requiring advantage of the tide (vessels of over 12ft. 6in. draught). A signalman will be kept on duty for these vessels if ample notice is given to the harbourmaster, otherwise they must remain at their berths or outside until 6 a.m.
A continuous watch will also be maintained when an overseas vessel is expected provided ample notification of arrival has been given to the harbourmaster.

Hill Signal-station closed.
Position : Lat., 46° 37′ S. ; Long., 168° 20′ E. (approx.).
Details : On and after the 1st January, 1938, the Bluff Hill signal-station will be closed and signalling carried out from the signal-station on Stirling Point.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
Land in Auckland Land District for Selection on Optional Tenures.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Auckland, 15th December, 1937.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section is open for selection on optional tenures under the Land Act, 1924 ; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, up to 11 o’clock a.m. on Monday, 24th January, 1938.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, on Wednesday, 26th January, 1938, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined documentary evidence of their financial position, such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms, or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and supply guarantees of their own financial position.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease fee, and deposit in reduction of weighting for improvements.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Whakatane County.—Rotoma Survey District.
PART Section 5, Block VIII : Area, 708 acres (approximately).* Capital value, £305. Deposit on deferred payments, £15 ; Half-yearly instalment on deferred payments, £9 8s. 6d. Renewable lease : half-yearly rent, £6 2s.
Weighted with £602 12s. 6d. for improvements, comprising a dwelling, cow-shed, whare, cart-shed, road boundary fencing, subdivisional fencing, boundary-fencing, shelter-belts, clearing and grassing. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £62 12s. 6d., the balance of £540 over a period of twenty years by means of forty half-yearly instalments of £21 13s. 5d.
A dairying and grazing property, situated on the Manawahe-Matata Road, eight miles from Matata Post-office, one mile from Manawahe School, nine miles from Matata Railway-station, fifteen miles from Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Factory, and eight miles from Awakaponga Saleyards.
