SECTION 11, Block XV: Area, 118 acres. Capital value, £30; half-yearly rent, 12s.
A poor grazing property, chiefly of use to an adjoining settler, situated at Upper Takaka, one mile from Upper Takaka School. The whole area, which is broken and hilly, is in scrub, manuka, and fern. The soil is of poor quality resting on semi-pakihi formation; poorly watered by river at one end of section.

Land in Marlborough Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section is open for selection on renewable lease under the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Blenheim, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, 8th June, 1937.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Blenheim, on Thursday, 10th June, 1937, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined documentary evidence of their financial position, such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms, or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and supply guarantees of their own financial position.

MARLBOROUGH LAND DISTRICT.—THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Sounds County.—Gore Survey District.—Marlborough Mining District.
SECTIONS 32, 38, and 43,* Block XII: Area, 415 acres 2 roods. Capital value, £140; half-yearly rent, £2 16s.
Weighted with £305 for improvements, consisting of cottage, cow-byre, dairy and washhouse, shed, boundary and internal fencing, felling and grassing. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a cash deposit of £5, the balance of £300 to be repaid as follows:—
(a) The sum of £140 on first mortgage to the State Advances Corporation for twenty-five years, interest 4½ per cent., reducible to 4¼ per cent. for prompt payment. Fees amounting to £3 5s. for preparation and registration of the mortgage are payable by the successful applicant.
(b) The sum of £160 on second mortgage to the Lands and Survey Department for twenty years with interest at 5 per cent. to a discharged soldier and 5½ per cent. to others, both reducible by ¼ per cent. for prompt payment.
The property is situated in Endeavour Inlet, Queen Charlotte Sound, and is of poor quality. Approximately 120 acres felled and grassed; this has, however, reverted to fern and second-growth and is of poor grazing value, balance in poor beech bush. The configuration is hilly to steep rocky hills.

STATE FOREST SERVICE NOTICES.
Milling-timber for Sale by Public Tender.
State Forest Service,
Rotorua, 17th May, 1937.
NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the purchase of the undermentioned milling-timber will close at the office of the State Forest Service, Rotorua, at 4 o’clock p.m. on Friday, 4th June, 1937.
SCHEDULE.
ROTORUA FOREST-CONSERVATION REGION.—AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.
ALL the milling-timber specified in that area containing approximately 178 acres, situated in Blocks IV and V, Opoutihi Survey District (portion of Provisional State Forest No. 15), about seventeen miles from Matamata Railway-station, or twenty miles from Tauranga Harbour.
The total estimated quantity of timber in cubic feet is 113,087, or in board feet 785,500, made up as follows:—

Terms of Payment.
A marked cheque for one-third of the tender, together with £1 1s. license fee, must accompany the tender, and the balance be made in six equal monthly instalments, the first of which shall be payable two months after date of sale.
Terms and Conditions.

All instalment-payments shall be secured by “on demand” promissory notes made and endorsed to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of State Forests, and interest at the rate of 1 per cent. per annum in excess of current bank overdraft rates will be charged on all notes overdue from the date of maturity to the date of payment.

The right to cut and remove the timber will be sold in accordance with the provisions of the Forests Act, 1921–22, the regulations in force thereunder, and these conditions.

The aforementioned quality, quantity, and kind as to the said timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for the purposes of this sale, and no contract for the purchase shall be voidable, nor shall the successful purchaser be entitled to any abatement in price, by reason of the said timber being of less quantity, quality, or kind as stated herein or in any advertisement having reference to the said timber.

A return giving the number of logs cut of each species and their contents must be made quarterly by the licensee on the last days of March, June, September, and December, respectively, in each year. A return must also be made on the same dates showing the output of sawn timber of each species. These returns may be ascertained and verified by inspection of the books of the mill, or by such other means as the Conservator may require, and for this purpose the accounts and books shall be open to the inspection of the Conservator, a Forest Ranger, or other duly authorized officer.

The attention of all tenderers is drawn to the fact that the local controlling body may require the successful tenderer to pay any claims or charges which may be made by that body for the maintenance of the road over which the timber may be transported, and before a sawmill license is issued a letter indicating that satisfactory arrangements have been made in this connection must be produced to the undersigned.

Intending tenderers are expected to visit the locality and to satisfy themselves in every particular on all matters relative to the sale.

Each tenderer must state the total price that he is prepared to pay for the timber. The highest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted, and the timber described is submitted for sale subject to the final acceptance of the tender by the Commissioner of State Forests.

The right is reserved to the Commissioner of State Forests to withdraw from sale any or all of the said timber either before or after the closing date for receipt of tenders.

If no tender is accepted for the timber herein mentioned it will remain open for application for three months from the date tenders close.

Tenders should be on the special form obtainable from any office of the State Forest Service, and should be enclosed in envelopes addressed “Conservator of Forests, Rotorua,” and endorsed “Tender for Timber.”
The conditions, which will be inserted in the license to be issued to the purchaser, and further particulars may be obtained on application to the undersigned or to the Director of Forestry, Wellington.
