Regulations for the Royal Naval Reserve (New Zealand Division) (Men).
Article 7 : Cancel, and substitute :—
Classes C and D.
- Classes C and D will be composed of men of the following branches, who will be enrolled between the ages stated :—
Seamen . . . . . . . . . . } 18 to 25 years.

Signalmen . . . . . . . . . . }
Wireless telegraphists . . . . . . }
Engine-room, Electrical, and Ordnance Artificers . . . . . . }

Supply ratings . . . . . . . . } 18 to 24 years.
Sick-berth ratings . . . . . . . . }
Article 16 : Cancel, and substitute :—
- Engine-room Artificers.—Fitters, coppersmiths, boilermakers, and enginesmiths not holding a Board of Trade certificate of competency or a certificate of competency granted under the New Zealand Shipping and Seamen Act, 1903, will be enrolled as Engine-room Artificers, 5th Class, provided they possess the qualifications required in the case of an Engine-room Artificer, 5th Class, entering the seagoing service.
An Engine-room Artificer, 5th Class, will be advanced to Engine-room Artificer, 4th Class, on completion of his first period of fourteen days’ training, if recommended by the Commanding Officer and Engineer Officer of the ship in which the training is performed. Subsequent advancement will be as stated in the next paragraph.
Article 31 : Cancel, and substitute :—
- Other ratings will be entered in the lowest man’s ratings of their branch existing in the seagoing forces, thus—
A candidate for entry as a Will be entered as
Stoker . . . . . . . . Stoker, 2nd Class.
Artificer (Engine-room, Electrical, Ordnance, Shipwright) . . . . Engine-room (&c.), Artificer, 5th Class.
Artisan (blacksmith, plumber, painter, joiner) . . . . . . Blacksmith (&c.), 5th Class.
Writer . . . . . . . . Writer Probationer.
Supply rating . . . . . . Supply Probationer.
Sick-berth rating . . . . . . Probationary Sick-berth Attendant.
Candidates drawn from the telegraph staff of the Post and Telegraph Department will be entered as Telegraphists.
Article 32 : Cancel, and substitute :—
- Artificers.—Men who are fully qualified workmen in one of the following trades will be eligible for enrolment as Engine-room Artificers, 5th Class, Electrical Artificers, 5th Class, or Ordnance Artificers, 5th Class.
The proportion in each trade of the total number of Engine-room Artificers to be enrolled will be as follows :—
Fitters . . . . . . . . . . 70 per cent.
Boilermakers . . . . . . . . 20 per cent.
Smiths and coppersmiths . . . . . . 10 per cent.
Candidates will be required to possess the qualifications for Engine-room, Electrical, or Ordnance Artificers, 5th Class, and to pass a technical examination as required by the King’s Regulations.
Article 35 : Cancel, and substitute :—
- Writers and Supply Assistants.—Clerical and/or accountant experience of at least one year will be required for entry as a Writer Probationer or Supply Probationer.
Article 36 : Cancel, and substitute :—
- Sick-berth Attendant.—The possession of a first-aid certificate of competency will be required of candidates for entry as Probationary Sick-berth Attendant.
