IV. SYLLABUS FOR INSTRUCTION OF MEDICAL OFFICERS.
(New Zealand Naval Reserve Regulations (Officers), 1936, Article 136.)
The following is a syllabus for the instruction of Medical Officers, R.N.V.R., appointed for naval training in H.M. Ships and Establishments.
2. It has been drawn up on broad general lines as a basis for instruction, to be modified as necessary to meet the needs of each officer according to his previous experience.
3. Training in a naval hospital (or sick quarters) which is entirely a medical establishment is left to the discretion of the Medical Officer in Charge, but will, as far as the facilities available permit, include—
(a) The routine of ward work.
(b) The admission and discharge of patients.
(c) The dieting of hospital patients.
(d) The examination of recruits.
(e) The method of keeping and rendering returns.
(f) General health of staff (officers, nurses, and men).
Syllabus.
(1) Method of preparing Dressing-station: Selection of site. Division and separation of medical stores, stowage of emergency stores below the water-line. Provision of secondary lighting. Access to water-supply. Method of slinging bamboo stretchers in tiers. Drawing of emergency bedding.
