Regulations for the Royal Naval Reserve (New Zealand Division) and
Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (New Zealand Division) (Officers).
Article 16: Cancel clause 3, and substitute:—
(3) As a general rule an officer should not be recommended until he has satisfactorily
performed a total of at least six months’ naval training at sea, and has completed gunnery,
torpedo, and signal courses.
Article 64: Cancel, and substitute:—
64. Qualifications for Confirmation of Acting Sub-Lieutenant.—In order to qualify
for confirmation an Acting Sub-Lieutenant must—
(a) Have attained one year’s seniority as Acting Sub-Lieutenant.
(b) Have served not less than one year at sea since promotion to Acting Sub-
Lieutenant; service both in the Naval Forces and Mercantile Marine shall
count towards the necessary period of one year’s service at sea.
(c) Have performed three months’ naval training.
(d) Have satisfactory records and reports of service for the period under sub-
section (b) of this article, including a certificate to the effect that he has
kept a bridge watch at sea throughout the whole period, except during the
three months’ naval training referred to in subsection (c) of this article, either
in charge or as “junior bridge-keeping officer of the watch.”
Article 67: Cancel, and substitute:—
67. Obligatory Naval Training: Sub-Lieutenant and Lieutenant.—The obligatory
naval training of a Sub-Lieutenant and a Lieutenant shall consist of twenty-eight days
training biennially, the first such period being performed within two years of com-
pleting the six months’ training referred to in Article 62 of these regulations.
Article 113: Cancel, and substitute:—
113. Royal Naval Reserve Officers’ Decoration.—His Majesty the King has been
graciously pleased to approve the award of the Royal Naval Reserve Officers’
Decoration to officers of the Royal Naval Reserve (New Zealand Division) under such
regulations as may be issued from time to time by the Governor-General in
Council with the concurrence of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty.
The decoration will be awarded for the present under the regulations approved for
the corresponding Reserve of the Royal Navy, but matters at the discretion of the
Admiralty shall be at the discretion of the New Zealand Naval Board.
Applications for the award of the decoration should be addressed to the Navy
Office, Wellington.
Article 136: Cancel Note (a), and substitute:—
NOTE: (a) Probationary Surgeon Lieutenants, Surgeon Lieutenants, and Surgeon
Lieutenant-Commanders, when undergoing training in H.M. Ships or Establishments,
should, as circumstances of appointment permit, be instructed practically or verbally
in the syllabus laid down. (See Appendix A IV.)
Article 141: Cancel Note, and substitute:—
NOTE.—Whilst undergoing training, officers of the Accountant Branch, R.N.V.R.,
will be regarded as forming part of the staff of the Accountant Officer. They should
be instructed in the practical duties of an Accountant Officer in accordance with the
syllabus laid down. (See Appendix A V.)
Article 155: Cancel, and substitute:—
155. Volunteer Officers’ Decoration.—His Majesty the King has been graciously
pleased to approve the award of the Volunteer Officers’ Decoration to officers of the
Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (New Zealand Division) under such regulations as may be
issued from time to time by the Governor-General in Council with the concurrence of
the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty.
The decoration will be awarded for the present under the regulations approved for
the corresponding Reserve of the Royal Navy, but matters at the discretion of the
Admiralty shall be at the discretion of the New Zealand Naval Board.
Applications for the award of the decoration should be made by the Commanding
Officer of the Division to which the officer belongs, and should be addressed to the Navy
Office, Wellington.
