NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—NORTH-EAST COAST.
Shoal reported.
Position : 296° 6·75 miles from Cape Karikari (Karakā). Lat., 34° 44′ 3″ S. ; long., 173° 17′ 3″ E. (approx.).
Details : A rocky shoal of small extent with a depth of seven fathoms M.L.W.S. has been located in the above position. It is not known if any lesser depth exists on the shoal.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
Lands in North Auckland Land District for Selection.
North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office,
Auckland, 17th February, 1937.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned sections are open for selection under the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 15th March, 1937.
The lands described in the First Schedule may, at the option of the applicants, be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or be selected on renewable lease. The lands described in the Second Schedule may be selected on renewable lease only.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, on Wednesday, 17th March, 1937, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined documentary evidence of their financial position, such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms, or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and supply guarantees of their own financial position.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease and mortgage fees, deposit in reduction of improvement loading, and proportionate part of insurance premium on buildings.

FIRST SCHEDULE.
NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Hokianga County.—Whangape Survey District.
Section 44, Block III: Area, 295 acres. Capital value, £250. Deposit on deferred payments, £10: Half-yearly instalment on deferred payments, £7 16s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £5.
Weighted with £430 for improvements, comprising a small six-roomed dwelling (incomplete inside) with scullery and passage, double brick chimney, old cow-bye, 100 chains of boundary and internal fencing, felling and grassing. This sum may be paid in cash or, after payment of a deposit of £15, £295 of the balance may remain on mortgage to the State Advances Corporation, term, twenty years, with interest at the rate ruling as at date of selection. Instalments comprising principal and interest combined are payable quarterly (instalments on basis of existing interest rate, £5 6s. 5d. net) and the costs of the preparation, &c., of the mortgage, amounting to £3 1s. will also have to be paid by the successful applicant. The balance of £130 is to be secured on second private mortgage for a term of ten years, bearing interest at the rate of 5 per cent. per annum, repayable half-yearly, and costs to be borne by successful applicant.
This property is situated on the Rotokakia-Broadwood Road, eight miles from Broadwood Post-office, one mile and a half from Rotokakia School, twenty-four miles from Kohukohu Railway-station, and eight miles from saleyards by metalled roads. The whole area is undulating to steep with approximately 95 acres in bush with steep, broken faces. Soil is of clay resting on sandstone formation; well watered by running stream but high country is likely to dry out in summer. Altitude 100 ft. to 350 ft. above sea-level. Property is suitable for grazing and there are no noxious weeds. About 110 acres are in fair pasture running to fern, 90 acres in worn-out pasture and fern, balance in bush.

Waitemata County.—Paremoremo Parish.

Allotment 441: Area, 30 acres. Capital value, £150. Deposit on deferred payments, £10: Half-yearly instalment on deferred payments, £4 11s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £3.
Weighted with £13 10s. (to be paid in cash) for improvements, comprising a small shanty with polite walls and iron roof (in bad repair) and 34 chains of fencing.
This section is situated on the main East Coast Road, nine miles from Devonport and two miles from Brown’s Bay by metalled road. The whole area is undulating to broken land with soil of clay, covered in short manuka and scrub; poorly watered by swampy stream. There are a few scattered pinus insignis trees of no value.

SECOND SCHEDULE.
NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Rodney County.—Pakiri Survey District.—Pakiri Block.
(Exempt from payment of rent for four years.*)
Section 22, Block V: Area, 154 acres 2 roods 26 perches. Capital value, £155; half-yearly rent, £3 17s. 6d.
The section, which is part of the Pakiri Block, is situated on the main road through the block. Wellsford is about twelve miles distant by metalled road. Cream-cart passes the section. There is also a rural-mail delivery in the district, and grocer and butcher call regularly. The area which is covered in gorse and scrub is undulating to steep in places, but is practically all ploughable. Soil is clay resting on sandstone formation; fairly well watered by springs and the Poutawa Stream. Elevation 50 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level.
- The rental exemption is conditional on improvements to the value of £15 10s. being effected on the area in addition to the usual requirements under the Land Act, 1924.

Section 33, Block VIII: Area, 81 acres 2 roods 12 perches. Capital value, £85; half-yearly rent, £1 14s.
Situated on Main North Road, about four miles from Awanui, one mile and a half of which is metalled, the balance being a sandy all-weather road. Soil is a sandy loam resting on sandstone formation. About 10 acres are drained swamp
