NOTICE is hereby given that the matters mentioned in the Schedule hereunder written will be heard by the Native Land Court sitting at Dunedin on the 26th day of January, 1937, or as soon thereafter as the business of the Court will allow. [South Island, 1936/37-8.]

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
Settlement Land in Wellington Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 21st December, 1936.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section is open for selection on renewable lease under the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 25th January, 1937.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, on Wednesday, 27th January, 1937, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined documentary evidence of their financial position, such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms, or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and supply guarantees of their own financial position.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease fee, and deposit in reduction of improvement loading.
SCHEDULE.
WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—SETTLEMENT LAND.
Castlepoint County.—Castlepoint Survey District.—Mataikona Settlement.
SECTION 6, Blocks V, VI, and VIII: Area, 4,930 acres 2 roods 17·7 perches. Capital value, £12,300*; half-yearly rent, £307.10s.
Weighted with the sum of £750 for improvements, comprising wool-shed, shearers’ whare, docking yards, yards and dip. This amount may be paid in cash or may be secured on mortgage to the State Advances Corporation for a term of thirty years. In addition to the deposit of a half-year’s rent and lease fee certain fees in connection with the preparation of the mortgage and a proportion of the insurance premium will be required. These amounts will be announced at the Land Board meeting.
This section is portion of the well-known Mataikona Settlement and is situated three miles from Whakataki Post-office, two miles and a half from Whakataki School, and forty-three miles from Masterton Railway-station and Sale-yards. Access is by good metalled road to Whakataki, then by good summer and fair winter road to the property. The section comprises easy to steep hilly country all rideable but subject to scrub. Approximately 2,000 acres are in good to fair pasture and 2,930 acres in natural state with clear country scattered throughout. The soil is of medium quality resting on clay and rock formation. There are about 130 acres of gorse and some rabbits.
*Improvements included in the capital value of the property consist of clearing and grassing 930 chains of fencing (requires attention) and large whare. The property is subdivided into five paddocks.

Land in Southland Land District for Selection on Optional Tenure.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Invercargill, 21st December, 1936.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section is open for selection on optional tenure under the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Invercargill, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, 19th January, 1937.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Invercargill, on Thursday, 21st January, 1937, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants.
SCHEDULE.
SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.
Southland County.—Oteramika Hundred.
SECTION 26, Block X: Area, 128 acres 2 roods 22 perches. Capital value, £260. Deposit on deferred payment, £15: Half-yearly instalment on deferred payment, £7 19s. 3d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £5 4s.
Weighted with £480 for improvements, consisting of dwellinghouse, cow-byre, washhouse, fencing, &c. This sum may be paid in cash or by a cash deposit of £10—balance to remain on mortgage for twenty years with interest at 6¼ per cent.; half-yearly instalments of principal and interest, £20 14s. 9d.
The land is situated four miles from Gorge Road Railway-station, Dairy Factory, and School by good metalled roads. When further developed the property will be suitable for dairying. It comprises level to undulating land, divided into four paddocks, and was originally in bush—57 acres have been felled and 52 acres sown. The soil is partly loam of good quality and partly peat resting on a free-clay formation. The altitude is approximately 150 ft. above sea-level. The property is badly overgrown by ragwort, and rabbits have partially destroyed grass on the cleared portions.
