Article 121: Cancel, and substitute—
121. Executive Officers—Attendance at Drills at Divisional Headquarters.—Every Executive Officer is required to qualify or requalify as “efficient” at Divisional Headquarters, and to do so he will be required to—
(1) Carry out the following number of drills annually:—
(a) Probationary Sub-Lieutenant and Sub-Lieutenant: Thirty-six in number.
(b) Lieutenant and Lieutenant-Commander: Twenty-four in number.
(2) Have attended the Annual Inspection unless specially exempted.
(3) Have satisfied his Commanding Officer that he has a good knowledge of the subjects in which he has been instructed, and that he is generally proficient in the duties of an officer of his seniority and experience.

Article 122: Cancel, and substitute—
122. Promotion to Probationary Sub-Lieutenant from the Ranks.—
(1) Names of candidates for promotion to Probationary Sub-Lieutenant are to be forwarded to Navy Office by the Officer Commanding the Division. They are to be selected from ratings who by virtue of leadership and power of command are likely to make good officers. They must hold a leading rate or be eligible for advancement to Acting Leading Seaman, Acting Leading Signalman, or Acting Leading Telegraphist, but the primary consideration is potential officer-like qualities.
(2) Prior to promotion candidates who are finally selected will be required to undergo fourteen days’ training (seven days obligatory and seven days voluntary) in one of H.M. Ships and to pass an examination in seamanship. (Vide Appendix A I.)

Article 123: Cancel, and substitute—
123. Promotion—Probationary Sub-Lieutenant to Sub-Lieutenant.—
(1) To be eligible for promotion to Sub-Lieutenant a Probationary Sub-Lieutenant will be required to have—
(a) Served for one year as Probationary Sub-Lieutenant:
(b) Passed a qualifying examination in Pilotage and chart work:
(c) Performed fourteen days’ training in a cruiser as Probationary Sub-Lieutenant and have been well reported on by the Commanding Officer:
(d) Been recommended by the Commanding Officer of his Division.
(2) Probationary Sub-Lieutenants appointed direct will be required to pass an examination in Seamanship (vide Appendix A I) in addition to the qualification referred to in paragraph (1).

Article 124: Cancel, and substitute—
124. Promotion—Sub-Lieutenant to Lieutenant.—To be eligible for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Sub-Lieutenants will be required to have—
(a) Served for three years as Sub-Lieutenant, including probationary time:
(b) Performed the requisite Naval training as Sub-Lieutenant, and have been well reported on by the Commanding Officers of the respective ships:
(c) Passed qualifying examinations in Gunnery, Mine-sweeping, Depth Charges, and Signals (vide Appendix A II):
(d) Been recommended by the Commanding Officer of his Division.

Article 125: Cancel, and substitute—
125. Naval Training of Executive Officers selected for Specialist Duties at Divisional Headquarters.—(1) With reference to article 35, table (ii), officers selected for specialist duties at Divisional Headquarters in Navigation, Mine-sweeping, Anti-submarine, and Signals will, as opportunity offers, receive additional Naval training so as to be instructed in the subject for which they are selected to specialize.
(2) Lieutenants selected for signal duties will be required to pass an examination in V/S and W/T (vide Appendix A III). The qualification “(S)” will be inserted in the Navy List against the names of officers who qualify.

Article 126: Cancel, and substitute—
126. Promotion—Lieutenant to Lieutenant-Commander.—Promotion will be granted automatically on attaining eight years’ seniority as Lieutenant, provided that an officer has—
(a) Performed the requisite Naval training.
(b) Passed a qualifying examination in Navigation and Chart Work for the Command of an Auxiliary Vessel.
