THE Acting Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service:—
John Kerr,
to be an Inspector of Machinery for the purposes of the Inspection of Machinery Act, 1928, and a Surveyor of Ships for the purposes of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, as from the 17th day of February, 1936.
Thomas Cagney,
to be Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Southland Land District for the purposes of the Land Act, 1924, as from the 17th day of February, 1936.
George Ivan Martin,
to be Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Westland Land District for the purposes of the Land Act, 1924, as from the 14th day of February, 1936.
Charles Henry Morison,
to be Chief Surveyor for the Westland Land District for the purposes of the Land Act, 1924, as from the 13th day of February, 1936.
Henry Ronald Mottram,
to be Chief Surveyor for the Southland Land District for the purposes of the Land Act, 1924, as from the 17th day of February, 1936.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman, Taieri County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I declare the result of the poll to raise a special loan of £9,850, taken on the 12th day of February, 1936, was as follows:—

Informal .. .. .. 6
As the total number of valid votes in favour of the proposal exceeds three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded, I declare the proposal carried.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman, Marlborough Electric-power Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.

MARLBOROUGH ELECTRIC-POWER BOARD.
IN accordance with the provisions of the Electric-power Boards Act, 1925, and the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, and the Acts amending the same respectively, I hereby give notice that the result of the poll of the ratepayers of the Marlborough Electric-power District taken on the 12th day of February, 1936, on the proposal of the Marlborough Electric-power Board to borrow the sum of £22,000 to purchase and erect additional standby plant and to extend the present power-house situated at Murphy’s Road, Springlands, Blenheim, was as follows:—
Votes.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was .. 253
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 131
The number of informal votes was .. .. .. 1
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Removal of Name from the Commission of the Peace.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased, in terms of section 8 of the Justices of the Peace Act, 1927, to direct the removal of the name of
Ronald Alexander Stewart, of Normanby,
from the Commission of the Peace; and it is hereby notified that such name has been removed accordingly, and that such removal will take effect on and from this 24th day of February, 1936.

SPECIAL ORDER.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers in that behalf vested in it by section 2 of the Counties Amendment Act, 1931 (No. 36), the Woodville County Council hereby resolves by way of special order that on and after the 31st day of March, 1935, sections 121 and 131 of the Counties Act, 1920, shall not apply to the said Council, and that thereafter the separate Riding Accounts for the ridings of Woodville, Mangaatua, Kumeroa, and Maharahara shall be closed and the respective balances thereof incorporated in the General Account in the Woodville County Fund in accordance with the provisions of the said section 2 of the Counties Amendment Act, 1931.
I hereby certify that the above special order has been duly made.

SPECIAL ORDER.
IN exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 27 of the Counties Act, 1920, the Ashburton County Council, on a petition of a majority of the ratepayers of the Coldstream Road District, resolves by way of special order that on or after the 31st day of March, 1936, the said road district shall be merged in the County of Ashburton and the Board thereof abolished.
