the meaning of the said Act are published for general

accordance with the regulations published in the New
Zealand Gazette of the 12th August, 1915, and amendments
thereto:—

red shield.

Land Surveyors’ Examination, March, 1936, Australia and
New Zealand.
The Survey Board of New Zealand,
Wellington, 31st January, 1936.
IT is hereby notified for general information that the
Survey Board, in conjunction with the Australian Sur-
veyors Boards, will conduct an examination of candidates for
registration as surveyor, commencing at 10 a.m. on Monday,
16th March, at Wellington.
Candidates are notified that their applications, on the
proper form, must reach the Secretary of the Board not later
than Monday, 2nd March, and that the examination fee
must be paid at the same time to the Secretary, from whom
application forms and other particulars may be obtained.
Candidates sitting under Rule VIII (1) will be accepted at
this examination, and with candidates completing former
sittings may sit in other centres where there is a Chief
Surveyor’s office.
New candidates for the whole examination are not accepted
at the March examinations.

NOTE.—Rule VIII (1) allows students to sit for subjects
1 to 4 inclusive on completion of two years in Articles, and
for such candidates a fee of £2 2s. is payable.
Candidates sitting for the astronomy subject should pro-
vide themselves with a copy of the “Nautical Almanac”
(Greenwich).

Southland Education Board.—Election of Member to fill
Extraordinary Vacancy.
IN accordance with the provisions of the Education Act,
1914, and amendments, it is hereby publicly notified
that
Mr. James Hargest,
being the only candidate nominated, has been duly elected to
fill the extraordinary vacancy on the Board for the Central
Ward caused by the death of Mr. P. A. de la Perrelle.

1936.

NOTICE is hereby given that the matter mentioned in
the Schedule hereunder will be heard by the Native
Land Court sitting at Wairoa on Tuesday, the 11th February,
1936, at 10 a.m., or as soon thereafter as the business of the
Court will allow.
At the conclusion of the business in Wairoa the Court will
adjourn to Nuhaka.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
Lands in Taranaki Land District for Selection on
Optional Tenure.
District Lands and Survey Office,
New Plymouth, 5th February, 1936.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned sections
are open for selection on optional tenure under the
Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the
District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, up to 11
o’clock a.m. on Tuesday, 25th February, 1936.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the
District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, on Wed-
nesday, 26th February, 1936, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if
any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by
any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown
Lands.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the
examination of applicants.

SCHEDULE.
TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT.
FIRST-CLASS LAND.
Waimo County.—Totoro Survey District.
Section 5, Block IX: Area, 182 acres 1 rood. Capital
value, £580*. Deposit on deferred payments, £30: Half-
yearly instalment on deferred payments, £17 17s. 6d. Renew-
able lease: Half-yearly rent, £11 12s.
Weighted with £488 for improvements, comprising dwelling,
cow-shed, approximately 240 chains fencing, and approxi-
mately 150 acres grass. After payment of a deposit of £38,
the sum of £870 may be secured by way of first mortgage to
the Mortgage Corporation of New Zealand with interest at the
rate ruling as at date of selection, while payment of the
balance (£60) may be made over a period of five years by
annual instalments of £12, with interest at the rate of five
per cent. on the outstanding liability.
Situated on the Totoro Road, five miles from Aria Post-
office and School, four miles from Aria Dairy Factory and
Saleyards, and twenty-eight miles from Te Kuiti Railway-
station. Access is by metalled road from Te Kuiti. This
section, which is suitable for mixed farming, has been heavy
bush land, and comprises easy country. It contains approxi-
mately 50 acres good pasture, 100 acres fair pasture, and
32 acres reverted. The soil is loam resting on heavy clay
formation, and the section, which is watered by streams,
is subdivided into six paddocks. Ragwort is prevalent.
- Capital value includes the sum of £122 2s. 8d., being part
valuation for the before-mentioned improvements.
*Special condition.—The costs for the completion of the
mortgage to the Mortgage Corporation of New Zealand must
be paid immediately an application is declared successful.
