Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Hairdressers’, and (2) Tobacconists’ Shops within the Combined District of Petone and Lower Hutt.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to me from the occupiers of shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the Combined District of Petone and Lower Hutt, comprising the boroughs of Petone and Lower Hutt, pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22:
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I, Adam Hamilton, Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that as from the date of the publication of this notice in the New Zealand Gazette all the shops in each of the said trades within the said combined district shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Subject to closing not later than 1 p.m. on the day observed as the statutory closing-day, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 8 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays at 9.30 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe Friday or Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for such shop shall be 9.30 p.m.; (2) on the working-day immediately preceding any of the following days—namely, Anniversary Day, Anzac Day, King’s Birthday, or any other day which, pursuant to a Proclamation by the Governor-General or to an Act of Parliament or to a declaration by the Government, or on the request of a Mayor of a local authority is generally observed as a public holiday, on Anniversary Day, King’s Birthday, and Labour Day, on the working-days (other than those observed as the statutory closing-days) in the period from 17th December to 4th January of the following year, both days inclusive, and on the working-days (other than the day observed as the statutory closing-day) in the period from the Monday immediately preceding Easter to the Tuesday immediately following Easter, both days inclusive, there shall be no fixed closing-hour.
The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 7th June, 1928, fixing the closing-hours of (1) hairdressers’ and (2) tobacconists’ shops in the Combined District of Petone and Lower Hutt shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice:
And whereas the said requisition is signed by not less than two-thirds of the occupiers of tobacconists’ shops within the said combined district, notice is hereby given that, pursuant to section 25 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, all other shops within the said combined district in which smoking requisites are sold shall be closed at the same hours as are set out herein for tobacconists’ shops.

Additional Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of Chemists’ Shops within the Borough of Gisborne.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within the Borough of Gisborne, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 29th March, 1928, fixing the closing-hours on Sundays of such shops in the said borough be cancelled, and that in addition to the matters provided for in the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 21st July, 1921, fixing the closing-hours of chemists’ shops in the said borough, all such shops within the said borough be closed during the whole of Sunday:
And whereas I, Adam Hamilton, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough:
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and section 15 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, I do hereby direct that on and after the 7th day of January, 1935, all the chemists’ shops within the Borough of Gisborne shall be closed during the whole of Sunday:
The notice gazetted on the 29th March, 1928, fixing the closing-hours on Sundays of chemists’ shops in the Borough of Gisborne shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

NOTE.—Pursuant to section 35 (4) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, a chemist may supply medicines and surgical appliances that are urgently required on Sundays, provided that the shop is opened for such purpose only and is closed immediately the sale is effected, and that the door of the shop is kept locked, except for the admission and exit of the customer.
Notice of Intention to take Land in Block XV, Waihou Survey District, for Canal and Road Purposes respectively.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, and the Hauraki Plains Act, 1926, to take the land described in the First Schedule hereto for the purposes of a canal, and the land described in the Second Schedule hereto for the purposes of a road: And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Tirohia, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

Being portion of part Te Awaii No. 1a No. 2b Section 2a; coloured sepia.
All situated in Block XV, Waihou Survey District (Auckland R.D.). (S.O. 26940.)
All in the Auckland Land District; as the same are more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 88214, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, and thereon coloured as above mentioned.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for the purposes of a gravel-pit. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Rotorua, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.
SCHEDULE.
APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken: 10 acres.
Being part Owhatiura South Block No. 1, Section 2.
Situated in Block I, Tarawera Survey District.
In the Auckland Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 88707, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, and thereon edged red.
