(2) If any person driving any cattle or sheep, or causing
or permitting any cattle or sheep to be driven, or allowing
any cattle or sheep to be along or upon the said highway,
shall refuse to give any of the information required to be given
by him in pursuance of these by-laws, or shall give false
information, or shall withhold information so as to create a
false impression, he shall be guilty of an offence.
(3) Any other person who, on the request of an authorized
person or police officer, shall fail to give information which
is in the power of such person to give, and which relates to
any breach or alleged breach of these by-laws, shall be guilty
of an offence.
- OFFENCES AND PENALTY.
(1) Every person who does, or causes or procures to be
done, anything contrary to or otherwise than is provided by
these by-laws, or who shall omit to do anything therein
required to be done by him, shall be guilty of an offence.
(2) Every person guilty of an offence against these by-laws
shall be liable for each such offence to a fine not exceeding
£5 (five pounds).
The foregoing by-laws were made by a resolution duly
passed at a meeting of the Main Highways Board held at
Wellington on the 18th day of October, 1934.

TRANSMISSION OF MEDICAL ADVICE TO SHIPS AT SEA.
M EDICAL advice may be obtained from New Zealand
coast stations by ships of all nationalities.
Radio-telegrams requesting medical advice should state
briefly and clearly the symptoms of the illness of the person
afflicted, and contain a brief description of the medical chest
carried on the ship. Such radio-telegrams should be drawn
up in the English language, signed by the master of the ship,
and addressed “Radio-Medical,” followed by the name of
the coast station.
In very urgent cases, the urgency signal (X X X) may be
used in order to ensure priority over all other communications
with the exception of those relating to S O S calls.
No charge is made for Medical Advice Radio-telegrams.

Victoria Channel: Beacon and Light established.
Position: Lat. 44° 49′ 0 S., long. 170° 30′ E. (approx.).
Abridged description: F.R.
Details: A single pile beacon (No. 5a), painted red, and
exhibiting a fixed red light, has been established in a position
about 180°, 200 ft. from the south-eastern extremity of
Kilgour Point.

Notice to Mariners No. 42 of 1934.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.
(1) Baring Head: Light to be established.
Position: 162° 3·1 miles from Pencarrow high level light.
Lat. 41° 24′ 5 S., long. 174° 52′ 3 E. (approx.). Chart 1423.
Details: A light is being established at Baring Head and
is expected to be in operation early next year. The light
will be group occulting white light having three eclipses
every fifteen seconds, thus—light, five seconds; eclipse,
two seconds, light, two seconds; eclipse, two seconds; light,
two seconds; eclipse, two seconds. It will be exhibited at
an elevation of 280 ft. and is visible for 23 miles from 305°
through north to 152°.
The tower, which is now completed, is 40 ft. in height,
built of concrete, and will be painted white.
(2) Pencarrow Head: Light to be discontinued.
Position: Lat. 41° 21′ 5 S., long. 174° 61′ 1 E. (approx.).
Chart 1423.
Details: The fixed white light on Pencarrow Head will be
discontinued when the light on Baring Head is established.
The tower, which will be useful as a day mark, will not be
dismantled.
Further notice will be given.

was found when crossing the bar with the lighthouse bearing
078°.
