NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—NAPIER.
- Amended Sailing Directions: 2. Buoys: 3. Dredging.
Previous Notices: No. 37 of 1932 and No. 12 of 1933 (Sailing Directions), hereby cancelled.
Position: Lat. 39° 29′ S., long. 176° 55′ E. (approx.).
- (a) Vessels making for the roadstead should bring the lighted leading-beacons into line bearing 282° when at a distance of 4½ miles from the front one, and steer for them on this bearing until Ahuriri Lighthouse bears 218° (or Inner Harbour eastern pier light turns white), then alter course to about 263° and pass 100 ft. south of the flashing buoy (008° 13·5 cables from Ahuriri Lighthouse), then return on a 307° course to the line of beacons which should be followed until near the anchorage.
Vessels of lesser draught than 22 ft. may, instead of passing southward of the buoy, continue on the line of beacons until near the anchorage.
(Caution.—Any deviation from the above tracks rendered necessary by the exigencies of navigation, should, if possible, be made to the southward.)
(b) Vessels bound for the Breakwater Harbour should follow the foregoing directions for vessels of 22 ft. draught and over until near the flashing buoy, when they should steer as necessary to bring the wharf leading-lights in line. The latter should then be kept in line until abreast of the inner red buoy before manoeuvring to a berth.
(c) Vessels taking a pilot should not proceed inward beyond Ahuriri Lighthouse bearing 224°.
- Buoys.—(a) The red conical buoy northward of Auckland Rock is moored 083° 197 yards from its position on chart 2513.
(b) A black cask-buoy is moored in a position 326° 400 yards from light at end of Glasgow Wharf.
(c) A temporary white buoy for the dredger’s moorings is moored westward of the Glasgow Wharf and shifted as required.
- Dredging.—The dredger “Whakariri” is working in the Breakwater Harbour and exhibits two black balls by day, and two red lights at night, vertically disposed, on the side on which vessels should pass. Vessels should keep clear of the moorings which are laid and altered as required.
The New Zealand Nautical Almanac and Tide-tables should be amended for the foregoing information, as follows :—
