Notice of Intention to take Land in Blocks IV and VIII, Drury Survey District, for the Purposes of a Road.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road—and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plans of the land so required to be taken are deposited in the Post-office at Drury, and are there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land; set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

By-laws, Kirikopuni–Tangowahine Section, Dargaville Branch Railway.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 238 of the Public Works Act, 1928, I, John Bitchener, Minister of Public Works, do hereby order and declare that the by-laws to be enforced on the Kirikopuni–Tangowahine Section of the Dargaville Branch Railway prior to its being opened for traffic under the Government Railways Act, 1908, shall, mutatis mutandis, be the same as those made by the Minister of Railways on the 29th day of May, 1909, for the management of the railways open for traffic in the Dominion of New Zealand, and for the regulation and control of all traffic on or upon the same (hereinafter called “the Railway Department’s by-laws”), a copy of which by-laws has been published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 47 of the 10th day of June, 1909, as altered and extended from time to time by publication in the New Zealand Gazette.

Where the words mentioned in the first column below appear in the Railway Department’s by-laws, the words mentioned in the second column below shall be read in lieu thereof:—

Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges, Kirikopuni–Tangowahine Section, Dargaville Branch Railway.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 238 of the Public Works Act, 1928, I, John Bitchener, Minister of Public Works, do hereby order and declare that the regulations, scale of fares, rates, and charges for passengers and goods, and the conditions on which passengers and goods will be carried on the Kirikopuni–Tangowahine Section of the Dargaville Branch Railway prior to its being opened for traffic under the Government Railways Act, 1908, shall, mutatis mutandis, and with the addition given below, be the same as the regulations and scale of fares, rates, and charges for the New Zealand Government Railways fixed to take effect on and from the 6th day of December, 1931, by the Government Railways Board as published by the Government Printer by authority in form of a handbook which is hereinafter referred to as “the Tariff,” and relating to passenger-fares and coaching and goods rates, as altered and added to from time to time by publication in the New Zealand Gazette.

The following paragraph shall be deemed to be added to Regulation 86 of the Tariff:—

“A special rate of five shillings (5s.) per wagon per quarter-hour or part thereof shall be charged for shunting wagons of manure on behalf of the occupier of any property adjoining the Kirikopuni–Tangowahine Section of the Dargaville Branch Railway.”

Southland Education Board.

ELECTION OF MEMBER TO FILL EXTRAORDINARY VACANCY.

IN accordance with the provisions of the Education Act, 1914, and amendments, it is hereby publicly notified that Mr. Walter Excell has been duly elected to fill the extraordinary vacancy on the Board for the West Ward, caused by the death of Mr. J. C. Thomson.

The number of valid votes recorded for each candidate was—

Walker, John Allan Bowman .. .. 64

The total number of valid votes recorded was 213. The number of voting-papers rejected as informal was 12.
