Appointments in the Public Service.

THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service :—

Arthur Roderick Ellis,

to be Registrar of Marriages for the District of Dunedin under the Marriage Act, 1908, Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Dunedin under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1924, and Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Dunedin under the regulations relating to the registration of Maoris, dated 19th March, 1913, as from the 18th day of January, 1934.

Charles William Carver,

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Nelson, as from the 4th day of January, 1934.

Herbert William Gallagher,

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Waipawa, as from the 10th day of January, 1934.

George Smeaton Clark,

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Hamilton, as from the 15th day of January, 1934.

Richard McKenzie,

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Waiuku, as from the 15th day of January, 1934.

Harold Donald,

to be an Examiner of Applicants in Sight Tests for the purposes of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, as from the 18th day of January, 1934.

Fire Brigades Act, 1926.—List of Persons, Companies, &c., carrying on Fire-insurance Business in New Zealand.

COUNTY OF HOROWHENUA.

SPECIAL ORDER.

In pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 2 of the Counties Amendment Act, 1931, the Council of the County of Horowhenua resolves by way of special order as follows :—

“That sections 121 and 131 of the Counties Act, 1920, shall not apply to the Council of the County of Horowhenua.”

We hereby certify that the above is a true copy of a resolution passed by way of special order at a duly called and constituted special meeting of the Horowhenua County Council held on Saturday, the 9th day of December, 1933, and which was confirmed at an ordinary meeting of the Council held on Saturday, the 13th day of January, 1934. Public notice of the order has been duly given.

Notice respecting Proposed Abolition of the Tuatua moana Drainage District, County of Waipa.

IT is hereby notified that a petition has been presented to His Excellency the Governor-General, under the Land Drainage Act, 1908, and its amendments, praying that the Tuatua moana Drainage District may be abolished. All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the proposed abolition which they desire to lodge, within one month from the first publication of this notice, such objections or petitions to be addressed to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.

The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1925.—Notice of Proposed Cancellation of Registration.

NOTICE is hereby given that, pursuant to an application in that behalf made to me by the Waitara Freezing-works Employees’ Industrial Union of Workers, registered number 1113, situated at Waitara, and in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by section 22 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1925, it is my intention to cancel the registration of that industrial union after the expiration of six weeks from the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette, unless in the meantime cause is shown to the contrary.

The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Act, 1932.—Notice of Cancellation of Award.

In the matter of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1925, and its amendments, and in the matter of an industrial dispute between the N.Z. Theatrical Proprietors and Managers’ Industrial Association of Employers, applicant, and the N.Z. Performing Musicians’ Industrial Association of Workers, respondent.

WHEREAS the Conciliation Commissioner, by notice under his hand dated the 21st day of December, 1933, has notified the Clerk of Awards that a settlement of the above-mentioned dispute has not been arrived at by the Council of Conciliation appointed for the hearing thereof, notice is hereby given that in accordance with section 7 (4) of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Act, 1932, the Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Temuka, Timaru, and Dunedin Performing Musicians’ award, dated 21st November, 1930, and published in Book of Awards, Vol. XXX, page 885, is deemed to be cancelled and ceases to be in force on the expiration of one month from the date of the Commissioner’s notification to the Clerk of Awards as aforesaid.

Dated at Wellington, this 20th day of January, 1934.

Election of Member of Southland Land Board.

I, BERNARD CHARLES ALTON McCABE, Returning Officer for the election of a member of the Southland Land Board, do hereby notify, in accordance with the provisions of section 47 of the Land Act, 1924, and the regulations made thereunder, that the only person nominated to fill the vacancy occurring on the said Board was

James Clarke Paterson, of Wendonside ;

and I do hereby declare that the said James Clarke Paterson is duly elected a member of the Southland Land Board for a term of two years from the 16th February, 1934.
