Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, and Retirements of
Officers of the N.Z. Military Forces.

STAFF.

Department of Defence,
Wellington, 23rd August, 1933.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the following appointments, promotions,
transfers, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand
Military Forces :—

The appointment of Lieutenant-Colonel C. E. Hercus, D.S.O.,
O.B.E., v.d., M.D., B.D.Sc., N.Z. Medical Corps, as Assistant
Director of Medical Services, Southern Command, is extended
to 9th August, 1934.

COMMANDS.

Lieutenant-Colonel R. G. Milligan, D.S.O., v.d., A.D.C.,
Regiment of N.Z. Artillery, relinquishes command of the
Northern Coast Artillery Group, dated 25th July, 1933,
and is appointed to command the 1st Field Brigade, N.Z.A.,
dated 26th July, 1933.

Major W. McK. Geddes, M.C., from the Reserve of Officers,
to be Major, with seniority from 2nd October, 1929, is
appointed to command the Northern Coast Artillery Group,
and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
Dated 26th July, 1933.

QUEEN ALEXANDRA'S (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED
RIFLES.

Lieutenant A. A. West, Regimental Supernumerary List, is
transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), R.D. 7.
Dated 8th August, 1933.

THE WAIKATO MOUNTED RIFLES.

2nd Lieutenant T. G. Santon to be Lieutenant. Dated 11th
August, 1933.

REGIMENT OF N.Z. ARTILLERY.

2nd Lieutenant V. A. Smith, 16th Light Battery, is transferred
to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), R.D. 10. Dated
11th August, 1933.

CORPS OF N.Z. ENGINEERS.

2nd Lieutenant J. J. Corcoran, Regimental Supernumerary
List, is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b),
R.D. 1. Dated 31st July, 1933.

THE AUCKLAND REGIMENT (COUNTESS OF RANFURLY'S OWN).

The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants and are posted
to the 1st Battalion :—

Ivan Stanley Moore. Dated 1st July, 1933.
Leslie John Daley. Dated 2nd July, 1933.

THE HAURAKI REGIMENT.

2nd Lieutenant (on probation) E. S. Clarke, 1st Cadet Bat-
talion, is transferred to the Nelson, Marlborough, and West
Coast Regiment. Dated 11th August, 1933.

THE WELLINGTON WEST COAST REGIMENT.

2nd Lieutenant R. Alley, Regimental Supernumerary List,
is retired. Dated 16th August, 1933.

THE HAWKE'S BAY REGIMENT.

Lieutenant John Carlton Holmes (Reserve of Officers, the
Royal Sussex Regiment) ceases to be attached to the 1st
Battalion, dated 31st May, 1933, is appointed Captain,
and is posted to the 1st Battalion, dated 1st June, 1933.

THE CANTERBURY REGIMENT.

Lieutenant-Colonel W. W. McKinney, Regimental Super-
numerary List, is posted to the Retired List, with permission
to retain his rank and wear the prescribed uniform. Dated
17th August, 1933.

Captain L. R. Austin, Regimental Supernumerary List, is
transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), R.D. 10.
Dated 10th August, 1933.

Lieutenant E. G. Hunter, Regimental Supernumerary List,
is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class II (b), R.D. 10.
Dated 17th August, 1933.

THE NELSON, MARLBOROUGH, AND WEST COAST REGIMENT.

2nd Lieutenant (on probation) E. S. Clarke, from the Hauraki
Regiment, to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation), with seniority
from 20th June, 1929, and is posted to the 2nd Cadet
Battalion. Dated 11th August, 1933.

THE OTAGO REGIMENT.

Captain R. G. McKinlay, 1st Battalion, is transferred to the
Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), R.D. 5. Dated 4th August,
1933.

N.Z. ARMY NURSING SERVICE.

Principal Matron J. G. Willis, A.R.R.C., to be Matron-in-
Chief. Dated 5th July, 1933.

Constable Allen John Barclay Adams,
to be Clerk and Bailiff of the Magistrates' Court at Motueka
for the purposes of the Magistrates' Courts Act, 1928, as from
the 16th day of August, 1933.

Llewellyn Wynn Williams,
to be an Inspector of Machinery for the purposes of the
Inspection of Machinery Act, 1928, and a Surveyor of Ships
for the purposes of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, as
from the 23rd day of August, 1933.

Constable George Henry Lionel Holt,
to be Clerk and Bailiff of the Magistrates' Court at Matamata
for the purposes of the Magistrates' Courts Act, 1928, as from
the 16th day of August, 1933.

Fritz Edward Lassen,
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Matata, as
from the 16th day of August, 1933.

Classification of Roads in Inglewood County.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on me
by the Transport Department Act, 1929, and the Heavy
Motor-vehicle Regulations, 1932, I, Joseph Gordon Coates,
Minister of Transport, do hereby approve of the Inglewood
County's proposed classification of the roads described in
the Schedule hereto, and situated in Inglewood County.

SCHEDULE.

INGLEWOOD COUNTY.

Roads classified in Class Three : Available for the use thereon
of any heavy motor-vehicle (other than a multi-axled heavy
motor-vehicle) which, with the load it is carrying, weighs not
more than 6½ tons, or any multi-axled heavy motor-vehicle
which, with the load it is carrying, weighs not more than
10 tons :—

Main Highway No. 1, Auckland–Wellington via Taranaki.
(All that portion within Inglewood County.)

Main Highway No. 37, New Plymouth – Kaimata. (From
Taranaki County boundary to Kaimata.)

Dated at Wellington, this 30th day of August, 1933.
