Prohibition of Issue of Money-orders and Transmission of Postal Correspondence.

THE Postmaster-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, having reasonable ground for supposing that the persons and organizations whose names and addresses are shown in the Schedule hereunder are engaged in promoting or carrying out a lottery or scheme of chance, it is hereby ordered under section 32 of the Post and Telegraph Act, 1928, that no money-order in favour of the said persons or organizations shall be issued, and that no postal packet addressed to the said persons or organizations (either by their own or any fictitious or assumed names), or addressed to any of the addresses in the Schedule hereunder without a name, shall be either registered or forwarded by the Post Office of New Zealand.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Boot and Shoe Retailers’, (2) Clothiers’, (3) Drapers’, (4) Fancy-goods Sellers’, (5) Furniture and Furnishings Retailers’, (6) Jewellers’, and (7) Stationers’ Shops within the Borough of Tauranga.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to me from the occupiers of shops in each of the trades of (1) boot and shoe retailer, (2) clothier, (3) draper, (4) fancy-goods seller, (5) furniture and furnishings retailer, (6) jeweller, and (7) stationer, within the Borough of Tauranga pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
And whereas, I, Adam Hamilton, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I do hereby direct that on and after the 11th day of September, 1933, all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 8 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) On the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m. ; (2) on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding any of the following days, viz., Anniversary Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign, Labour Day, and any other day which is, pursuant to a Proclamation by the Governor-General or to an Act of Parliament or on the request of the Government or the Mayor of Tauranga, generally observed in the district as a public holiday the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m. ; and (3) should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe pursuant to section 14 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday shall be 5.30 p.m. and on Friday 8 p.m.
The notice dated the 26th March, 1913, published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 27th March, 1913, fixing the closing-hours of certain shops in the Borough of Tauranga shall be and is hereby cancelled in so far as it relates to the shops affected by this notice as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Sale of Unclaimed Bicycles.

IT is hereby notified that a number of unclaimed bicycles in the hands of the police at Christchurch Police Station will, if not claimed before Thursday, the 31st August, 1933, be sold thereafter by public auction.
Particulars as to the time and place of sale may be obtained from the Superintendent of Police at Christchurch.
