necessary work. Subdivided into nine paddocks and suitable
for mixed farming, the present condition being 10 acres in
old grass, 12 acres in wheat-stubble, 25 acres disk-ploughed
and left, 13 acres worked up and left, and balance in worn-
out pasture, creek-beds, &c. Improvements included in the
rental value comprise 188 chains of fencing valued at £59 14s.
After payment of the required deposit on account of im-
provements, the first half-year's rent, broken-period rent, and
lease fee, £1 1s., the Land Board will consider remitting the
rent accruing during the following eighteen months of the
term of the lease.

Settlement Land in Marlborough Land District for Selection on
Renewable Lease.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Blenheim, 17th July, 1933.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned sections
are open for selection on renewable lease under the
Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, and
applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey
Office, Blenheim, up to 4 o'clock p.m. on Tuesday, the 12th
September, 1933.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at
the District Lands and Survey Office, Blenheim, on Thurs-
day, 14th September, 1933, at 10 o'clock a.m., but if any
applicant is unable to attend, he may be examined by any
other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the
examination of applicants.
SCHEDULE.
MARLBOROUGH LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.—
SETTLEMENT LAND.
Marlborough County.—Avon Survey District.—Erina Settle-
ment.
SECTIONS 8as and 24s, Blocks II and VII: Area, 899 acres
2 roods 21 perches. Capital value, £2,425. Half-yearly rent,
£60 12s. 6d.
Weighted with £805 for improvements, consisting of four-
roomed house, dairy, and workshop, wool-shed, water-supply,
and fencing. This sum may be paid in cash or by a cash
deposit of £355, the balance remaining on mortgage.
The improvements included in the rental value, comprise
fencing and plantation valued at £95.
The property is situated in the Wairau Valley and adjoins
the Blenheim—West Coast Highway, about twenty miles
from Blenheim. It is about five miles from Wairau Valley
School and Post-office. The land comprises mainly ridges
which rise to an elevation of 1,500 ft. above sea-level, but
there is an area of about 40 acres of stony flat which in a
favourable season would grow sheep-feed or a light crop
of oats. The area is subdivided into two blocks and eight
paddocks, all being in native grasses with evidence of York-
shire fog. The buildings and fencing are in a fairly good
state of repair.
(Note.—During the first three years the Land Board will
consider remitting 25 per cent. of the net rental provided that
payments of rent are made within one month of due dates.)

STATE FOREST SERVICE NOTICE.
Milling-timber for Sale by Public Tender.
State Forest Service,
Nelson, 18th July, 1933.
NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the
purchase of the undermentioned milling-timber will
close at the office of the State Forest Service, Nelson, at
4 o'clock p.m., on Monday, 7th August, 1933.
SCHEDULE.
NELSON-MARLBOROUGH FOREST-CONSERVATION REGION.—
NELSON LAND DISTRICT.
ALL the milling-timber on that piece of land containing
284 acres, situated in Block IX, Inangahua Survey
District, part of Provisional State Forest No. 130 and State
Forest No. 142.
The total estimated quantity of timber in cubic feet is
122,512, or in board feet 778,150, made up as follows:—

Terms of Payment.
A marked cheque for one-fifth of the purchase-money,
together with £1 1s. (license fee), must accompany the tender,
and the balance be paid in five one-monthly instalments,
the first of which shall fall due one month after the date of sale.
Terms of Sale.
-
All instalment-payments shall be secured by “on
demand” promissory notes made and endorsed to the satis-
faction of the Commissioner of State Forests, and interest
at the rate of 1 per cent. per annum in excess of current
bank overdraft rates will be charged on all notes overdue
from the date of maturity to the date of payment. -
The right to cut and remove the timber will be sold in
accordance with the provisions of the Forests Act, 1921-22,
the regulations in force thereunder, and these conditions. -
The aforementioned qualities, quantities, and kinds as to
the said timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for
the purposes of this sale, and no contract for the purchase
shall be voidable, nor shall the successful purchaser be entitled
to any abatement in price by reason of the said timber being
of less quantity, quality, or kind as stated herein or in any
advertisement having reference to the said timber. -
The attention of all tenderers is drawn to the fact that
the local controlling body may require the successful tenderer
to pay any claims or charges which may be made by that
body for the maintenance of the road over which the timber
may be transported, and before a sawmill license is issued
a letter indicating that satisfactory arrangements have been
made in this connection must be produced to the undersigned. -
A return, giving the number of logs out of each species
and their contents, must be made quarterly by the licensee on
the last days of March, June, September, and December respec-
tively in each year. A return must also be made on the same
dates showing the output of sawn timber of each species.
These returns may be ascertained and verified by inspection
of the books of the mill, or by such other means as the Con-
servator may require, and for this purpose the accounts and
books shall be open to the inspection of the Conservator, a
Forest Ranger, or other duly authorized officer. -
Intending tenderers are expected to visit the locality
and to satisfy themselves in every particular on all matters
relative to the sale. -
Each tenderer must state the total price that he is pre-
pared to pay for each species. The highest or any tender will
not necessarily be accepted, and the timber described is sub-
mitted for sale subject to the final acceptance of the tender
by the Commissioner of State Forests. -
The right is reserved to the Commissioner of State
Forests to withdraw from sale any or all of the said timber
either before or after the closing date for receipt of tenders. -
If no tender is accepted for the timber herein mentioned
it will remain open for application at the upset price until
further notice. -
Tenders should be on the special form obtainable from
any office of the State Forest Service, and should be enclosed
in envelopes addressed “Conservator of Forests, Nelson,”
and endorsed “Tender for Timber.”
The conditions which will be inserted in the license to be
issued to the purchaser and further particulars may be
obtained on application to the undersigned or to the Director
of Forestry, Wellington.
