PART XIII.

PAYMENT OF MAINTENANCE FOR THE SUPPORT OF PRISONERS’ DEPENDANTS.

  1. All prisoners (except female prisoners) engaged in productive or useful labour and having dependants in necessitous circumstances who were dependent upon and maintained by the prisoner immediately prior to his arrest or conviction and who are resident in the Dominion shall be known as “wages men.”

  2. Maintenance grants will be paid to or for the benefit of the dependants of wages men to such amounts and by such instalments and in such manner as the Minister may from time to time generally or in regard to any particular case determine.

  3. The Minister may in his discretion determine whether any person is to be deemed a dependant of a wages man, or whether a dependant is in necessitous circumstances or is resident in the Dominion, or any other matter relevant to the payment of a maintenance grant under these regulations.

  4. Except as provided by the next succeeding regulation, the amount of maintenance grants paid in respect of any wages man shall not exceed an amount computed at the rate of 6d. for each mark allotted to him under Part XII of these regulations.

  5. The amount of maintenance grants paid in respect of any wages man classed as skilled in terms of Regulation 398 shall not exceed an amount computed at 7d. per mark allotted as aforesaid.

  6. Maintenance grants to or for the benefit of dependants of female prisoners will be paid to such extent and under such terms and conditions as the Minister shall in any particular case direct.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this 15th day of August, 1932.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by section thirty-six of the Finance Act, 1931 (No. 2), and by the Education Act, 1914, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby make the following regulations.


REGULATIONS.

I. INTERPRETATION.

  1. THESE regulations may be cited as the University National Bursary Regulations, 1932.

  2. In these regulations, unless inconsistent with the context,–
    “ The said Act ” means section 36 of the Finance Act, 1931 (No. 2) :
    “ The Director ” means the Director of Education :
    “ College ” includes–
    (a) A constituent college of the University of New Zealand ;
    (b) A college established in connection with the University of New Zealand ; and
    (c) A professional school maintained by a constituent college and for the time being recognized by the University pursuant to its statutes :
    “ University National Bursary ” and “ Bursary ” mean a bursary awarded and held under the said Act and these regulations :
    “ Permitted course of study ” means a course of study leading to–
    (a) A degree of the University ;
    (b) A diploma of the University ;
    (c) The final diploma of a recognized professional school ; or
    (d) A professional examination in Law or Accountancy conducted by the University :
