THE following Notice to Mariners has been received from the Department of Defence, Sydney, and is published for general information.

COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA.—LIGHTHOUSE SERVICE.

NOTICE TO MARINERS, 1932, No. 5.

[Astronomical positions are approximate unless seconds are given. Bearings are true and in degrees from 000° (north) to 359° measured clockwise, and those relating to lights are from seaward. Visibility of lights is that in clear weather. Fog signals are sounded only during thick or foggy weather. Elevation given is the height of focal plane above mean H.W. springs.]

AUSTRALIA.—EAST COAST.

Barrenjoey Head: Intended Alteration in Light.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that the fixed red light on Barrenjoey Head will be altered on or about 6th August, 1932.

Position: South side of Broken Bay entrance. Lat. 33° 35′ S., long. 151° 20′ E., on Chart No. 2166.

Alterations—
Character: The fixed red light will be replaced by a group flashing white light (U), showing four flashes every twenty seconds, thus: Flash, ½ sec.; eclipse, 1 sec.; flash, ½ sec.; eclipse, 1 sec.; flash, ½ sec.; eclipse, 1 sec.; flash, ½ sec.; eclipse, 15 secs.
Power: The power will be increased from 700 candles to 6,000 candles.
Visibility: Twenty-five miles.
Remarks: The light will be unwatched. The light-keepers will be withdrawn, the telephone removed, and the exhibition of signals will be discontinued.
NOTE.—In other respects the light will remain unaltered. Further notice will be given when the alterations have been completed.
