Notice of the Native Minister's intention is hereby given and published in accordance with the said subsection (3), which provides that no owner shall, except with the consent of the Native Minister, be entitled to exercise any rights of ownership in connection with the land affected so as to interfere with or obstruct the carrying-out of any works undertaken or to be undertaken under the said subsection (3).

Fixing the Amount of Special Orchard-tax payable in the Wairarapa Commercial Fruit-growing District.—(Notice No. Ag. 3001.)

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon me by subsection (3) of section 4 of the Orchard-tax Act, 1927, I, David Jones, Minister of Agriculture, hereby order and direct that, in addition to the general orchard-tax payable under section 3 of the said Act, the occupier of every orchard within the Wairarapa Commercial Fruit-growing District shall in each year be liable to pay a special orchard-tax calculated at the rate of four shillings (4s.) for every acre or part of an acre comprised in his orchard.

Amending Rules for the Examination of Engineers.

Wellington, 19th November, 1931.
WHEREAS by Warrant dated the twenty-sixth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and thirty-one, and published in the Gazette of the fifth day of March following, at page 479, rules were made relating to the examination of engineers in the Mercantile Marine :
And whereas it is desirable to make certain amendments to the said rules :
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section twenty-three of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in that behalf, I do hereby make the following rules amending the hereinbefore recited rules.

Rule 9 is hereby revoked.

Rule 34 is hereby amended by revoking clauses (c) and (d) and substituting the following in lieu thereof :—
EACH CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A THIRD-CLASS CERTIFICATE.
(c) (1) A candidate for a second-class certificate whether ordinary or motor, must possess a third-class certificate.
(2) Any qualifying sea-service within the meaning of clause (b) hereof performed by such candidate prior to his obtaining a third-class certificate may be accepted as qualifying sea-service for a second-class certificate.
CANDIDATES FROM OVERSEAS.
(d) Any candidate from overseas who may desire to present himself for examination in New Zealand for a second-class certificate must first obtain a third-class certificate, and have complied with the requirements of the British Board of Trade in respect of workshop and sea service.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of Hairdressers’ Shops within the South Rakaia Road District.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to me from the occupiers of hairdressers’ shops within the South Rakaia Road District, pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
And whereas I, Adam Hamilton, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said road district :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I do hereby direct that on and after the 14th day of December, 1931, all the said shops within the said road district shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 8.30 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m.
The notice dated the 21st January, 1924, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 24th January, 1924, fixing the closing-hours of shops within the South Rakaia Road District shall be and is hereby cancelled in so far as it relates to the shops affected by this notice, as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Notice to Persons in whom is vested Ecclesiastical Authority over Religious Bodies.

THE attention of the persons or person within the Dominion of New Zealand in whom is vested ecclesiastical authority over any of the religious bodies enumerated in the Third Schedule annexed to an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled the Marriage Act, 1908, and of all other persons concerned, is directed to the 11th section of the above-mentioned Act, requiring the several ecclesiastical authorities as aforesaid to send in to the Registrar-General, in the month of December in every year, a correct list of their Officiating Ministers within the meaning of the Marriage Act, 1908, of each of the said religious bodies.
The following are the religious bodies above referred to :—
The Church of the Province of New Zealand, commonly called the Church of England.
The Presbyterian Church of New Zealand.
The Roman Catholic Church.
The Methodist Church of New Zealand.
All Congregational Independents.
Baptists.
The Lutheran Church.
All Hebrew Congregations.
The Society of Friends.
The Salvation Army.
In default of any person having ecclesiastical authority over any of the religious bodies named above, the name of the Officiating Minister of any congregation of such religious body may be certified to by two recognized office-bearers thereof.
A minister of religion not connected with any of the aforesaid bodies must send to the Registrar-General in the month of December in each year a certificate signed—
(a) By the recognized head in New Zealand of the religious body to which he belongs ; or
(b) By two duly recognized ministers of such religious body ; or
(c) By ten adult members thereof, who append to their signatures their description as being such members, declaring that such minister is their Officiating Minister, the said signatures and descriptions being attested by some person who shall verify the signatures to the certificate as the genuine signatures of the persons whose they purport to be, by a statutory declaration signed by such person and appended to the certificate,
