Small lots of goods of Classes A, B, C, and D from Wellington to stations Paekakariki to Palmerston North inclusive and Whakarongo and Ashhurst will be charged pro rata at the local rate, instead of under Regulation 71, General Scale of Charges. Minimum charges:—

To stations other than Otaki, Levin, Shannon, Palmerston North .. 1s. 6d.

To Otaki, Levin, Shannon, Palmerston North—

Not exceeding 2 qr. .. .. .. .. 1s. 6d.

With the following exceptions, goods consigned from Wellington to Otaki, Levin, Shannon, and Palmerston North, and charged at the local rates for Classes A, B, C, and D, will be delivered within the areas specified by the Department in that behalf.

Exceptions.—Pianos, plate-glass, motor-cars in cases, household removals, aeroplanes, boats, empty tanks, creamery and freezing vats, theatrical luggage and scenery, show exhibits, side-shows, contractor’s plant, all vehicles, agricultural machinery, any package exceeding 5 cwt. in weight in the case of Palmerston North, and 7 cwt. in weight in the case of Otaki, Levin, and Shannon, or 20 ft. in length, or involving special cartage arrangements, benzine, kerosene, and similar mineral oils.

LOCAL UNIFORM RATES.

Goods of Classes E, F, N, P, Q, R, also artificial manures (Regulation 86, General Scale of Charges) forwarded from any station to stations Paekakariki to Ashhurst (inclusive) will be charged at the above local rate, and which is to be regarded as the rate referred to in the following proviso as the “local uniform rate”: Provided, however, that to those persons or bodies of persons (whether incorporated or not) who shall undertake to place with or cause to be placed with the Board the whole of their goods requiring conveyance between places in New Zealand, where in the opinion of the Board it is reasonably practicable for such persons or bodies of persons to have their goods conveyed by railway, the benefit of the classified rates under which such goods would be charged had the local uniform rate not been in operation shall be extended, and be payable in all cases when such classified rates shall be cheaper than the classified Class D rate, Reg. 69, General Scale of Charges.
