(b) The following special loans falling due on the second
day of December, 1931 :—
(1) A special loan of £35,000 raised by the Gonville and
Castlecliff Tramway Board in the year 1911 for the
purpose of the construction and equipment of a
tramway to serve the Gonville and Castlecliff
Tramway District, starting from the terminus of
the Wanganui Borough Tramways.
(2) A special loan of £3,500 raised by the Gonville and
Castlecliff Tramway Board in the year 1912 for the
completion of the purposes for which such loan of
£35,000 hereinbefore mentioned was raised.
(3) A special loan of £3,500 raised by the Gonville and
Castlecliff Tramway Board in the year 1912 for the
purpose of the construction and equipment of a
Tramway to serve the Gonville and Castlecliff
Tramway District starting from the terminus of
the Wanganui Borough Tramways.
(c) A special loan of £50,000 raised by the Wanganui
Borough Council in the year 1922 for the purpose of
the erection, construction, and finishing of a power-
house, car-barn, and all or any other necessary or
convenient buildings or building, sheds or shed, in
connection with the tramway system of the borough ;
the constructing, making, and supplying of machinery,
plant, apparatus, and appliances for generating
power in connection with the said tramway, and the
working thereof; the supplying of electricity to
private consumers; the making, procuring, furnishing,
and supplying of car-barn, equipment, and appliances ;
the constructing, making, and supplying of tram-cars,
trailer-cars, and all other buildings, machinery, plant,
apparatus, and things necessary, convenient, or
expedient for all or any of the purposes aforesaid,
and all things incidental thereto or used in connection
therewith ;
the Wanganui City Council hereby makes and levies a special
rate of three and three-eighths of a penny in the pound upon
the rateable value (on the basis of the annual value) of all
rateable property of the City of Wanganui, the boundaries
whereof are defined in the New Zealand Gazette of the 12th
day of August, 1926, Number 53, at pages 2500 and 2501,
and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate
during the currency of such loan, and be payable half-yearly
on the eighth day of March and the eighth day of September
in each and every year during the currency of such loan,
being a period of twenty years from the eighth day of
September, one thousand nine hundred and thirty-one, or
until the loan is fully paid off.
In witness whereof the common seal of the Mayor, Councill-
lors, and Citizens of the City of Wanganui has, by resolution
of the Council passed on the eighteenth day of August, one
thousand nine hundred and thirty-one, been hereunto affixed,
this eighteenth day of August, one thousand nine hundred and
thirty-one.

URSUANT to the Mining Act, 1926, the undersigned
William Wilson Begg, of Dunedin, Mining Engineer,
hereby applies for a license for a water-race, as specified in
the Schedule hereto, the course whereof has been duly marked
out for the purpose.
Precise time of marking out privilege applied for : 4 p.m.,
17/8/31.
Date and number of miner's right : 15/7/31 ; No. 29870.

Locality of the race, and of its starting and terminal points :
Starting at a point on the Beaumont River about five miles
below the intake of the Dunedin City Corporation's water-
race to the Waipori River, thence through Crown lands in a
southerly direction for approximately five miles to saddle on
main ridge between Beaumont River and Bowler's Creek,
thence in a north-easterly direction for a distance of about
three miles to headwaters of Bowler's Creek, and taking in ten
heads of water from Bowler's Creek ; thence in south-easterly
direction to saddle on main ridge between Bowler's Creek and
Tuapeka River ; thence in an easterly direction by natural
course and pipe-line to a point one chain above water-race,
held in the name of Samuel Hogg ; thence parallel to said
water-race for a distance of approximately fifty chains ; thence
by tunnel into Husky Gully ; thence by pipe-line over saddle
between Gabriel's Gully and Weatherstone's Flat ; thence
south-east to Section 60, Block Tuapeka East, to terminal
point. Pegs marked XX.
Length and intended course of race : Twenty miles ; west
to east.
Points of intake : At starting point in Beaumont River ;
and at Bowler's Creek about eight miles from head of race.
Estimated time and cost of construction : One year ;
£5,000.
Mean depth and breadth : 3 ft. by 4 ft.
Number of heads to be diverted : Forty heads from
Beaumont River and ten heads from Bowler's Creek.
Purpose for which water is to be used : Mining.
Proposed term of license : Forty-two years.

head of Bow Bell Rock ; thence by natural course to Bow
Bell Dam, and taking in strip of land 10 ft. wide on each

Length and intended course of race : Six miles ; from west
to east for half course, and from north to south for remainder.
Points of intake : At starting-point in Bungtown Creek.
Estimated time and cost of construction : One year ;
£1,000.
