William John Roydhouse
to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Factories Act, 1921–22, and an Inspector for the purposes of the Weights and Measures Act, 1925, as from the 14th day of August, 1931.
John Henry Irvine
to be a Ranger under the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, for the Nelson Acclimatization District, as from the 20th day of August, 1931.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, transfers, and retirements of the undermentioned officers of the N.Z. Military Forces :—
STAFF.
Lieutenant G. H. Heal, N.Z. Staff Corps, having returned to New Zealand from Samoa, ceases to be seconded for service with the Department of External Affairs, dated 2nd August, 1931, and is posted to G.H.Q. Training Depot, Trentham, dated 12th August, 1931.
COMMANDS.
The period of command of Lieutenant-Colonel G. Lyon, M.C., 2nd Field Brigade, N.Z. Artillery, is extended for one year from 12th June, 1931.
The period of command of Major T. O. Lambie, Central Depot, N.Z. Corps of Signals, is extended to 31st May, 1932.
THE WAIKATO MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant C. N. White, D.C.M., is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class II (b), R.D. 4. Dated 14th August, 1931.
THE OTAGO MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant J. M. Briggs is transferred to the Otago Regiment. Dated 22nd June, 1931.
REGIMENT OF N.Z. ARTILLERY.
The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) L. M. Kissell, Southern Artillery Group (Christchurch Boys’ High School Cadets, Artillery Section), is confirmed.
N.Z. INFANTRY.
The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own).
2nd Lieutenant R. H. Forder ceases to be posted to the 1st C Battalion, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 14th August, 1931.
2nd Lieutenant M. C. Casey ceases to be posted to the 4th C Battalion, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 14th August, 1931.
Captain F. A. Sadler ceases to be posted to the 6th C Battalion, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 14th August, 1931.
The undermentioned cease to be posted to the 7th C Battalion, and are posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 14th August, 1931 :—

The Hauraki Regiment.
2nd Lieutenant J. R. O. Lochhead, 1st Battalion, is posted to the Retired List, with permission to retain his rank and wear the prescribed uniform. Dated 15th August, 1931.
The North Auckland Regiment.
Lieutenant J. P. Batchelor, from the Hawke’s Bay Regiment, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from the 1st May, 1927, and is posted to the Regimental Supernumerary List. Dated 15th August, 1931.
The Hawke’s Bay Regiment.
Lieutenant J. L. South, 1st C Battalion, is transferred to the Otago Regiment. Dated 11th August, 1931.
Lieutenant J. P. Batchelor, 1st Battalion, is transferred to the North Auckland Regiment. Dated 15th August, 1931.
The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) S. T. Holmes, 4th C Battalion, is confirmed.
The Canterbury Regiment.
Donald Alfred Smith to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation), and is posted to the 2nd C Battalion. Dated 1st July, 1931.
The Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast Regiment.
The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) D. McK. Scott, 2nd C Battalion, is confirmed.
The Otago Regiment.
Lieutenant J. M. Briggs, from the Otago Mounted Rifles, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from the 16th May, 1925, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 22nd June, 1931.
Lieutenant J. L. South, from the Hawke’s Bay Regiment, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from the 8th October, 1930, and is posted to the 3rd C Battalion. Dated 11th August, 1931.
Lieutenant E. A. Hamilton, 1st Battalion, is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), R.D. 12. Dated 11th August, 1931.
The Southland Regiment.
The undermentioned cease to be posted to the 1st Battalion, and are posted to the 1st C Battalion. Dated 11th August, 1931 :—

Captain A. M. Ross, M.B., ceases to be attached to the 1st Battalion, The Waikato Regiment, and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers. Dated 14th August, 1931.
Lieutenant J. H. Beaumont, 2nd Field Ambulance, is transferred to the Reserve of Officers. Dated 11th August, 1931.

Nelson City Council.—Cancellation of Unexercised Loan Authority.
In the matter of Section 118 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.
WHEREAS the Nelson City Council has been duly authorized to borrow by way of loan the sum of one thousand seven hundred pounds (£1,700) for the purchase of fire appliances, and the consent of the Governor-General in Council thereto was given by Order in Council made on the 29th day of October, 1930, and published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 74, of the 30th idem at page 3254 :
