Notice to Mariners No. 30 of 1931.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—HAURAKI GULF. —
AUCKLAND HARBOUR.
Alteration in Lights.
- Position : On Orakei Wharf. Lat. 36° 50½' S., long.
174° 49' E. (approx.).
Abridged Description: Fl. R. ev. 4 sec., 18 ft., 6 M. (U).
Details: On 3rd August the present flashing white light
with red sector will be altered to flashing red every
four seconds, thus: flash, 1 sec.; eclipse, 3 sec.
Remarks: The lines showing the red sector on chart 1970
are to be expunged. - Position : On black pile beacon about 130 yds. to the
northward of black beacon off The Bastion.
Details: On 3rd August a red sector will be introduced
in the fixed white light at present exhibited. The
light will then show red from 344° through north to
074°, white elsewhere.
Remarks: The red sector will cover the sewer outfall
beacon.

PUBLICATION OF NEW CHARTS Nos. 1896 AND 1999.
A NEW CHART No. 1896, “Approaches to Auckland,”
was issued by the Hydrographer on 23rd January, - This chart is larger than the 1914 edition, having been
extended approximately five miles northward, two miles south-
ward, and sixteen miles eastward, to include the coastline from
a little northward of Tiri Tiri Matangi, and the western shore
of Coromandel Peninsula from Hope (near Colville Bay), to
Tapu Creek.
Chart No. 1999, showing “Approaches to Port Lyttelton,”
“Port Lyttelton,” and “Lyttelton Harbour” was issued on
10th April, 1931. The “Approaches to Lyttelton” is on a
scale of 1 in. to a mile, and includes the coastline from the
western head of Little Akaroa to the entrance of the River
Avon. The “Port Lyttelton” plan is on a scale of 5·8 in. to
a mile, and extends from the eastern side of Camp Bay to the
eastern end of Quail Island. The “Lyttelton Harbour” plan
is on a scale of 9·5 in. to a mile.
The above charts are on sale at the various Mercantile
Marine Offices in the Dominion.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—EAST COAST.—HAURAKI
GULF.
Erection of Flagstaffs and Exhibition of Signals.
Position: 1. Lat. 36° 28·6' S., long. 174° 47·5' E. (Chart
1998), near the south-western end of Motutara
Island. - Lat. 36° 28·9' S., long. 174° 44·9' E., about
one mile and a quarter northward of Sadler
Point.
Details: On and after 1st August, signals will be made
between flagstaffs erected in the above positions, in connection
with the working of a quarry on Motutara Island and the
carriage of metal to the mainland.
The day signals will consist of circular and/or triangular
shapes exhibited from the yardarms. The night signals will
consist of white and/or red lights exhibited from the mast
or from the yard.
Remarks: Motutara is the westernmost island of the Kaitu
Kalu group.
