Appointments in the Public Service.

Office of the Public Service Commissioner,

THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service :—

Henry Loftus Primrose

to be Commissioner of Crown Lands and Chief Surveyor for the Gisborne Land District for the purposes of the Land Act, 1924, as from the 1st day of July, 1931.

Bernard Charles Alton McCabe

to be Deputy Commissioner of Crown Lands and Deputy Chief Surveyor for the Southland Land District for the purposes of the Land Act, 1924, as from the 1st day of August, 1931.

Constable Lawrence Fox

to be Clerk of the Warden’s Court at Naseby for the District of Otago, constituted under the Mining Act, 1926, as from the 1st day of August, 1931.

Constable William Shore Hughes

to be Bailiff of the Magistrates’ Court at Stratford for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, as from the 16th day of February, 1931.

Florence Helen Beal

to be an Inspector of Factories under the Factories Act, 1921–22, as from the 16th day of July, 1931.

George Edward Harrison Davis

to be the Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Awarua for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, as from the 16th day of July, 1931.

Constable Samuel Winfred McBurney

to be Bailiff of the Magistrate’s Court at Lyttelton for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, as from the 15th day of July, 1931.

Ohaupo Town Board.—Cancellation of Unexercised Loan Authority.

In the matter of Section 118 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.

WHEREAS the Ohaupo Town Board has been duly authorized to borrow by way of loan the sum of three thousand pounds (£3,000) for the erection of a public hall, and the consent of the Governor-General in Council thereto was given by Order in Council made on the 5th day of March, 1920, and published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 25, of 11th idem, at page 789 :

And whereas in respect of the said sum of three thousand pounds (£3,000) there has been raised and borrowed for the purpose aforesaid the sum of two thousand seven hundred pounds (£2,700) :

And whereas the undertaking in respect of which the said loan was authorized has been completed, and it has not been found necessary to borrow the whole of the amount so authorized :

And whereas the Minister of Finance has duly notified the Ohaupo Town Board in writing of his intention to cancel the loan authority in so far as it has not been exercised :

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in that behalf conferred upon me by section 118 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, and of all other powers me in this behalf enabling, I, George William Forbes, Minister of Finance, do hereby cancel the authority of the Ohaupo Town Board to borrow under the loan authority hereinbefore referred to, the sum of three hundred pounds (£300), being the amount in respect of which the said loan authority has not been exercised : Provided always that this cancellation is without prejudice to the validity in all respects of the loan of two thousand seven hundred pounds (£2,700) already borrowed pursuant to the said loan authority.

Post Office Savings-bank.

RATE OF INTEREST PAYABLE ON DEPOSITS.

Wellington, 22nd July, 1931.

IN exercise of the powers conferred on me by subsection (1) of section 82 of the Post and Telegraph Act, 1928, I, George William Forbes, Minister of Finance, do hereby give notice that on and after the 1st day of August, 1931, the notice published in the Gazette on the 29th day of March, 1928, and enuring under the said subsection, shall be amended so that the Post Office Savings-bank rate of interest in the case of each depositor, on so much of his deposit as does not exceed five hundred pounds, shall thenceforth be a rate of three and three-quarters per centum per annum in lieu of the rate provided by subclause (a) of clause 1 of the said notice.

Notification of Exemption from Renter’s Quota under the Cinematograph Films Act, 1928.

IT is notified for public information that, acting under the provisions of section 29 of the Cinematograph Films Act, 1928, I have granted exemption to the firms mentioned below in respect of the year ending 31st December, 1931, from the provisions of the aforesaid Act, requiring renters of cinematograph films to acquire a proportion of British films :—

Paramount Film Service (N.Z.), Ltd.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (N.Z.), Ltd.
Universal Film Mfg., Co. (A’sia), Ltd.

Incorporated Societies Act, 1908.

I, WALTER HAROLD FLETCHER, Assistant Registrar of Incorporated Societies, do hereby declare that, as it has been made to appear to me that the West End Lawn Tennis Club (Incorporated) and the Ranui Golf Club (Incorporated) have ceased to exist, the aforesaid societies are hereby dissolved in pursuance of section 28 of the Incorporated Societies Act, 1908.
