for the purposes of the Land Act, 1924, as from the 1st day of

to be the Returning Officer for the Electoral District of
Napier for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, as from
the 1st April, 1931.

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Waikare,
as from the 1st day of February, 1931.

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Whakapara,

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the appointments, promotions, transfers,
and retirements of the undermentioned officers of the N.Z.
Military Forces:—
STAFF.
2nd Lieutenant R. C. Queree, N.Z. Staff Corps, having com-
pleted his training at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst,
and his attachment to the 1st Battalion, The Royal War-
wickshire Regiment, returned to New Zealand on the 3rd
March, 1931, and is posted to G.H.Q. Training Depot,
Trentham.
N.Z. STAFF CORPS.
2nd Lieutenant R. C. Queree to be Lieutenant. Dated 29th
August, 1929.
THE NELSON-MARLBOROUGH MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant F. W. Horton to be Captain. Dated 10th Sep-

Waikato Regiment. Dated 9th March, 1931.
The North Auckland Regiment.
Sydney Martin to be Honorary Lieutenant and Bandmaster,
3rd C Battalion. Dated 1st March, 1930.
The Waikato Regiment.
Lieutenant P. Smyth, from the Auckland Regiment (Countess
of Ranfurly’s Own), to be Lieutenant, with seniority as
from the 26th April, 1917, and is posted to the 2nd C
Battalion. Dated 9th March, 1931.
The Otago Regiment.
The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) A. Salmond,
1st C Battalion, lapses. Dated 12th March, 1931.
N.Z. AIR FORCE.
Flight-Lieutenant G. L. Stedman to be Squadron-Leader.
Dated 16th February, 1931.
Brian Douglas Armstrong to be Pilot Officer, and is posted
to No. 2 (Bombing) Squadron. Dated 16th February, 1931.
RESERVE OF OFFICERS.
General List (Class II).
Colonel R. W. McVilly, M.V.O., retires, with permission to
retain his rank and wear the prescribed uniform. Dated
28th February, 1931.
The Waikato Mounted Rifles.
