Notifying Land in the Gisborne Land District subject to the Land for Settlements Act, 1925.

PURSUANT to the provisions of the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, I hereby notify that the undermentioned land, being the land known as Apanui Settlement, which has been acquired under the said Act, is subject to the said Act as from 3rd December, 1930.

SCHEDULE.

LAND IN THE GISBORNE LAND DISTRICT SUBJECT TO THE LAND FOR SETTLEMENTS ACT, 1925.

Gisborne Land District.—Apanui Settlement.

ALL that area in the Gisborne Land District, containing by admeasurement 466 acres 3 roods 6 perches, more or less, being Allotments 6, 7, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 35, and 37, Waioeka Parish, and being the land comprised in Certificates of Title, Vol. 67, folio 197, Vol. 70, folio 12, and Vol. 78, folio 188, Gisborne Registry.

Also all that area, situated in the Gisborne Land District, containing by admeasurement 2 acres 2 roods, more or less, being Allotment 36 of the Parish of Waioeka.

As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 21/149/477, deposited under No. 2472 in the Head Office of the Department of Lands and Survey at Wellington, and thereon edged green.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, fixing the Closing-hours of Chemists’ Shops within the Combined District of Invercargill.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within the Combined District of Invercargill, comprising the City of Invercargill and the Borough of South Invercargill, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the said combined district, save and except the shop (hereinafter referred to as “the exempted shop”) established at 88 Esk Street, within the City of Invercargill, for the purpose only of the sale of medicines and surgical appliances that are urgently required, be closed as set out below, and that subsection (4) of section 35 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, should not apply to any shop within two miles and a half of the exempted shop while medicines and surgical appliances are obtainable from the exempted shop—On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions: (1) In the evening of the working-day immediately preceding each of the following days—viz., Boxing Day, Good Friday, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign, and any day which, pursuant to a Proclamation by the Governor-General or declaration by the Government, or on the request of the Mayor or Chairman of the local authority is generally observed as a public holiday or half-holiday, the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (2) on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day there shall be no fixed closing-hour; (3) should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe, pursuant to section 14 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, Saturday as the statutory closing day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 5.30 p.m., and the closing-hour on Friday for any such shop shall be 9 p.m.:

And whereas I am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represents a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said combined district, and that all the occupiers of the said shops within the said combined district affected by section 35 (1) of the said Act have been afforded an equal right to share at a reasonable cost in the profits of the business carried on by the exempted shop:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of sections 32 and 35 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I, Sydney George Smith, Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 30th day of March, 1931, all the chemists’ shops within the Combined District of Invercargill, save and except the exempted shop, shall be closed accordingly.

The notice dated the 30th April, 1919, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 1st May, 1919, fixing the closing-hours of chemists’ shops within the Borough of Inver-
